Team Lead Safety Codes Officer

The Opportunity:
This position provides mentorship, daily oversight andexpertise to Safety Code Officers (SCO), ensuring the consistent interpretationand application of the Safety Codes Act, Codes and Quality Management Plan, andreport back to the Permits & Inspections Supervisor.
The position acts as a liaison with industry andenforces the Alberta Building Code, standards and regulations for theprotection and safety of the public by performing compliance monitoringfunctions (including plan checking, inspections, and follow-up), providingeducation and advice to the public, contractors, trades people, andprofessionals, and developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
As our preferred candidate, youwill have:
Safety Codes Officer certification for the highestlevel of certification in building, electrical, gas or plumbing discipline. Eight years of safety codes officer experience, six ofwhich must be at the highest level of certification, with demonstratedtechnical experience in all aspects of the discipline. Two years of supervisory or demonstrated leadershipexperience. A combination of education and experience may beconsidered. A current knowledge of the Safety Codes Act,applicable regulations, building codes, and other legislation. Ability to lead, train and mentor the SCO team. Ability to work with considerable independence. Ability to complete detailed plan examinations andinspections of all types/complexities of installations, to determine if theintent of applicable codes and standards is followed. Ability to exercise care and observe safetyprecautions in performing inspections at construction sites, which may requireexerting light physical effort and working outside in all types of weather. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to workwith external stakeholders and internal stakeholders and maintain effectiveworking relationships in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Effective communication skills, both verbal andwritten, to communicate with professionals, contractors, trades people and thepublic; responds to questions and explanation of issues arising from the planreview or site inspection(s). Valid class 5 driver’s license and the use of theirvehicle for business use.Affiliation:

Remuneration:
$57.54 to $60.57 per hour.
Hours of Work:
75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening andweekend work may be required.
