The Opportunity

The Manager of Education reports to the Senior Director, Programming & Education and leads the education and summer programs teams. The Manager will oversee the development and implementation of a park-wide progressive and integrated Education & Programming strategy. This park-wide strategy will build upon existing programs and activities as well as create new inclusive and diverse education programming with the goal of creating diverse, passionate and interconnected communities invested in the promotion and conservation of species and habitats. This role is responsible for overseeing the program and project timelines for the department, ensuring that deliverables are of high quality. The Park education programming responsibilities include both community and revenue generating programs and providing support for the activation of all park spaces including performance areas, greenspace/gardens, galleries and ceremonial spaces. Oversee the execution of all education programs including but not limited to Guided School and Group Programs and Tours, Self-Guided Programs, APC Camps (Winter, Spring, Summer & In-service), and Pre-school programs.

This role will support diversity & inclusion strategies by establishing connections and fostering strong relationships with diverse community organizations. This position, with the support of the broader APC team, will be responsible to partner with Indigenous groups and communities to fulfil the department’s programming commitments under the TRC’s calls to action and the Winnipeg Indigenous Accord.

The Manager of Education must demonstrate flexibility & adaptability in a dynamic work environment adjusting plans as needed to address evolving priorities and challenges.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

Related Education includes: Bachelor’s degree in in the field of Education/Pedagogy, Business Administration, Cultural Studies, Recreation Management.  Experience in programming with proven understanding of Indigenous culture, Indigenous history, perspectives, knowledges, methodologies and cultural practices with emphasis on Metis, First Nation & Inuit culture, tradition and values. 3 years of budgeting, business development, and financial reporting including grant writing and demonstrated experience in strategic planning. Experience engaging and collaborating with Indigenous communities including Elders, Knowledge Keepers and other community members. Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and experience with educational program planning, cultural activities, facilitation, consultation, and engaging program development. The ability to communicate in an Indigenous language(s) and/or previous exposure to Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous cultures is an asset.
