Financial Services


The division is responsible for accounting and reporting on the financial transactions of the University including specifically accounting and treasury, procurement and payables, collection services, financial systems and training and providing excellent client service, advising and assisting departments on research, budgetary and financial matters, policies and processes. We support the University by managing its financial affairs in an efficient, innovative and professional manner. We are dedicated to providing leadership, information, training, support and advice.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Treasury Supervisor to supervise daily operations of the Treasury & Investing Services department by providing guidance, direction and ensuring adherence with treasury and banking procedures, including relevant staff training. 
 

Provides advice to stakeholders on operational matters relating to the functional area and ensures smooth day-to-day operations. Recommends new approaches and services to the Director to ensure efficient payment processing and treasury and investment management.  Supports the Director with implementing operational strategies, policies and procedures regarding the secure, safe, and cost-effective operation of the functional area.  Builds expertise in delivering responsive service, provides support while building trust to successfully resolve treasury and banking related issues.  Assists the Director and other management with coordination and management of the daily work in the department.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Provides treasury administration services, advice and guidance to Financial Service (“FS”) units as well as University departments, related to merchant, petty cash and bank accounts, including banking policies and processes as well as online platform access and administration, and day-to-day banking management. Oversees timely and accurate maintenance of accounts, tracks and maintains reports, manages the opening and closing of accounts, coordinates point of sale terminals, manages timely and accurate chargebacks and fees, ensures annual due diligence reviews, prepares annual Know Your Client updates, reviews updating of service agreements and banking service implementations, and manages authorized signatories. Reviews and manages payments and payment processes that the department is involved in, including working with other FS units to resolve issues, address challenges, review processes and implement approved changes. Performs treasury accounting functions ensuring daily transactional treasury and banking journal entries are prepared, reviewed and approved in the university’s finance system, collaborating with the Accounting team on new and existing treasury and investing related transactions, and preparing financial details and notes to the audited financial statements. Manages the administration of the endowment fund and other funds held in trust, including record keeping and system updates, reviewing monthly continuity schedules, reports and reconciliations, managing the completion of annual tasks, and ensuring timely preparation of reports. Contributes to developing process improvements and implements approved initiatives, including suggesting ideas for continuous productivity and efficiency improvements through technology and service delivery. Provides support related to special projects, including preparing complex financial modeling and analysis, preparing customized data analytics, trend and scenario analysis and presenting recommendations for the Director’s consideration. HR management and supervision of staff, including delegating work, determining priorities, hiring, onboarding, training, monitoring performance.
 

Qualifications

Successful completion of a post secondary degree program in commerce, economics, finance, accounting, or a related business administration related field; A minimum of five (5) years experience working in a treasury role with experience in treasury, cash management and investing, preferably in a post secondary institution or broader public sector organization; Enrolment in CFA Level 2 or the CPA program, or completion of the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) program would be preferred; or an equivalent amount of work experience; Experience acting in a team lead or supervisory role, preferably within a unionized environment; Advanced knowledge of accounting, treasury and banking principles and procedures; Advanced knowledge of financial reporting including the ability to prepare notes to financial statements, analyze data and present recommendations; Ability to produce reports, manuals, procedures and presentations; Strong financial analytical skills including ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information/data, document results and prepare recommendations; Strong computer proficiency and knowledge of various systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, Oracle, endowment software application, and on-line banking systems, equipment and application queries; Solid oral and written communication skills;  Excellent interpersonal, negotiating and customer service skills; Proven ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders, employees, managers and senior leadership; Strong investigative, analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills;. Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines;  The ability to lead and navigate change effectively while cultivating a transformative and supportive environment for staff; Strong strategic-thinking skills with an ability to identify, recommend and collaborate with team members on process improvements and best practices; Ability to conduct individual and team training sessions; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask and prioritize as necessary.
