Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Family and Community Liaison for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Child Care Centre. 

Reporting to the Manager, Early Learning at MacEwan, the Family and Community Liaison (FCL) position is a multifaceted role that supports and promotes a healthy early childhood community. The FCL establishes and maintains strong relationships with current and potential families to navigate necessary supports and resources, address any challenges or concerns, and promote a supportive network. The FCL will continue to provide support to the playroom teams and children on a regular basis, playing an important role in shaping the children’s early educational journey. The role works with children, families, educators, faculty, students, and community professionals. 

Key responsibilities include: 

Recognizing and prioritizing the child's sense of belonging within the family and broader community. Fostering responsive and reciprocal relationships with early learning programs and the community to enhance the child's connection. Ensuring respectful, equitable, and inclusive approaches in all interactions with families. Supporting the Manager with playroom planning, waitlist management and enrollment procedures (, intake procedures from waitlist, registration, ensuring a child’s start into the Centre is positive and ensures the family has all the information they need to feel supported, etc.). Maintaining quality early learning and care practices that align with the vision, mission, and values of ELM and the Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies program. Proactively initiating dialogue on new and innovative ideas for planning and environment within the framework of Flight, Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework. Incorporating current best practices in early learning, including child-led, play and rights-based, and anti-bias curriculum into daily work, with a strong emphasis on inclusion. Demonstrating the philosophy of early childhood care and curriculum in practice with children and their families, students, faculty, professionals in the field and community members. Actively participating in and contributing to orientation and professional development days within the Centre. Fostering positive work relationships with colleagues, creating a supportive, respectful, and responsive work environment.

Skills 

You will have: 

Knowledge in family centered practice, relationship-based practice, and a rights-based approach. The ability to build and maintain strong relationships, advocate for children and families and facilitate meaningful community partnerships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening, empathy, clarity with the ability to convey information in an appropriate manner. The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and appropriately display sensitivity to effectively engage with families from diverse backgrounds. Strong problem-solving skills to address complex issues and challenges that arise. Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and responsibilities. The ability to work independently and collaboratively with families, colleagues, community partners and other stakeholders. Flexibility and being able to adapt by responding to the changing needs and dynamics of children and families. Resiliency and the ability to cope with challenging situations, setbacks, and stress. Resourcefulness to be able to identify, access and recommend appropriate supports, services and programs for the Centre and families. The ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with complex and sensitive situations in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner. Reliability, punctuality and be able to demonstrates a positive attitude. 

Qualifications 

Diploma in Early Learning and Child Care, Social Work, Human Services (including programs focused on Family and Community Engagement) or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Government of Alberta Child Care Certification - Level III. First Aid Certificate. Knowledge and experience utilizing Flight, Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework is considered an asset. Trauma informed care training is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Position Requirements

The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
