Role Proposition:

Reporting to the COO, the CMCO is responsible for the long-term success of the marketing and communications for Sun Peaks Resort and its affiliated entities. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, the CMCO enhances Sun Peaks Resort’s brand presence, awareness and reputation across key audiences and markets. The successful candidate will manage a high-performing marketing function supporting our ambitious growth objectives, implement an effective internal leadership communications strategy and oversee corporate communications and community relations. In addition, the position will lead sales and event related functions for the team at the mountain.

The role is well suited to an experienced marketing and communications professional looking to build on their experience in a resort or hospitality setting to date or looking to make a lifestyle change and better align career and personal goals. Either way, you are an ambassador for the guest experience, thrive on data and insights to inform business decisions, and are comfortable working with a close-knit team in a lean and efficient operation.

Accountabilities:

Marketing and Events

Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of marketing strategies and tactics, including integrated marketing communication campaigns Drive strong brand awareness internally and externally, gaining support from key stakeholders Manage key areas such as visual identity, social media strategy, owned digital properties, and e-commerce functions Establish an external relations strategy in anticipation of growth into new markets Oversee development and execution of mountain events and partnership activations Foster a strong relationship with Tourism Sun Peaks to optimize marketing resources

Communications and Public Relations

Track and report on the reputation and effectiveness of communication strategies and activities Lead and manage all corporate media relations activities Oversee crisis communication and reputation management Engage with the Sun Peaks community through outreach programs, corporate donations, and community fundraising support Oversee all corporate communications activities, including: Key guest communication efforts Proactive media engagement and thought leadership Cross functional execution for multiple departments and business functions Event management and representation Collaborate with the executive team and the Director of Employee Experience, HR, to design and implement an internal leadership communications strategy

Sales

Implement sales strategies, processes, and systems to maximize revenue and achieve objectives Drive a revenue optimization culture informed by data analytics across all resort properties Collaborate with the Chief Accommodation and Hospitality Officer to meet guest acquisition objectives

Ideal Candidate:

Proven track record in executive leadership, ideally within the tourism and hospitality industry Minimum ten years’ experience leading a marketing and communications function, with a focus on team empowerment First-class communication skills with the ability to build and nurture relationships with partners and stakeholders Demonstrated excellence in cross-functional collaboration A champion for safety and the guest experience – every member of the team adopts and promotes healthy and safe working practices and embodies a strong guest service ethic Sensitivity to the realities of working in a resort environment with a strong community culture Strong results orientation while respecting the values of integrity, teamwork, and balance

Light work activities involve handling loads of 5 kg but less than 10 kg; predominately in an indoor setting with occasional outdoor exposure.
