Fleet Operational Training Coordinator (Continuous)
Engineering & Public Works Department
POSITION FUNCTION
Develops and implements comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of fleet maintenance and operations staff. Coordinates, conducts, and oversees training activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the City fleet vehicles and light - heavy equipment.
KEY DUTIES
Training Program Development:Collaborate with stakeholders to identify training needs and develop comprehensive operational training programs for fleet staff.Create training materials, manuals, and documentation to support learning objectives. Coordination and Scheduling:Organize and coordinate training sessions, workshops, and educational events for fleet operations staff.Develop and maintain a training schedule to ensure all staff receive necessary training within established timelines. Facilitation of Training:Conduct training sessions, either in-person or through virtual platforms, ensuring effective delivery of content and engagement of participants.Utilize a variety of training methodologies to accommodate different learning styles. Safety and Compliance Training:Develop and implement safety training programs to ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and best practices.Keep abreast of changes in regulations and update training materials accordingly. Performance Assessment:Establish assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.Monitor and assess the performance of fleet staff following training, providing feedback and additional support as needed. Assess operator competence through courses and field assessments and issue verifications of operator competence. Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, and performance assessments.Generate reports on training effectiveness, completion rates, and areas for improvement.Review driver abstracts to ensure operator status remains current; notify appropriate staff of irregularities on driver abstracts. Maintain various records such as operator training, driver abstracts, vehicle incidents and fleet use. Continuous Improvement:Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to fleet operations.Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives for training programs and materials. Investigate equipment and vehicle incidents; review accident reports and recommend corrective training or upgrade courses for operators. Review Maintenance trends and operational concerns. Reviews Pre-trip/Post trip compliance. Communication:Communicate training updates, changes, and expectations to all relevant stakeholders.Foster open communication to address questions and concerns from fleet staff. Perform related duties where qualified.INDEPENDENCE
Work is generated through program objectives and in response to Fleet and Equipment incidents. Work is reviewed through meetings and reports to supervisor. Issues such as unsafe equipment operation or removal of operator certifications are referred to Fleet Supervisor with recommendations.WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to understand and apply principles of vehicle and heavy equipment operations and maintenance. Ability to develop and deliver operational training programs, preferably in fleet management or related fields. Knowledge of safety regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices. Advanced organizational and coordination skills. Advanced communication and presentation skills. Proficient in using training software, learning management systems, and other relevant tools. Strong Mechanical aptitude and understanding Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of equipment safety regulations.QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
High school graduation. Red Seal Mechanical certification in any of the following Red Seal trades:Automotive Service Technician (4 year)Commercial Truck and Transport Mechanic (4 year)Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (4 year) Canada Safety Council Defensive Driver Instructor Certification. (2-3 weeks) Air brake instruction certification (1-2 weeks) Current and valid Class 1 . Driver's Licence with air brake endorsement. (8-12 weeks)Experience:
4 years of Mechanical experience, including progressive experience in Operational and/or in Training and Instruction. or an equivalent combination of education and experience.OTHER:
Certifications in training and development are an asset Operational Certifications are considered an asset to this position. May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.Work schedule: Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)
$50.45 per hour, Pay Grade 15 (under review)
