Your Opportunity:
Are you a Registered Dental Assistant seeking a new opportunity where you get to travel within Central Alberta, supporting the AHS Public Health team? If so, this may be the opportunity for you As a registered Dental Assistant with the Public Health team within Central Zone, supporting (Wainright) and surrounding areas, you will implement the provincial AHS Oral Health Action Plan by addressing risk factors for oral health. Your responsibilities will include oral health assessments, fluoride varnish and sealant application to students in targeted schools; fluoride varnish applications to preschool aged children; and oral health education for parents, and health professionals. You will work collaboratively with other AHS Public Health staff, community dentists, community agencies, and schools, integrating the principles of health promotion, community development and capacity building. This position also supports the Dental Outreach of Red Deer, a collaboration between AHS and volunteer Dentists and Dental Assistants in the Red Deer area to provide free Dental Treatment to eligible children. This position requires moving heavy equipment and navigating awkward positions. You will be required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. This is a 10 Month position. The successful applicant will work Late August to Early June every year with 2 months off in the summer.All scheduled hours of this position fall within the ten (10) month period of the school year in accordance with Letter of Understanding #27 of the Collective Agreement between AHS and HSAA.
Description:
As a Dental Assistant, you will receive and prepare patients for treatment. You will prepare instruments and materials required, perform intra-oral procedures and chair-side assistance during dental procedures. You will maintain cleanliness of the dental area and perform routine maintenance. You will also provide oral health treatment and education to patients. You may perform billing and pre-authorization of insurance claims and participate in the development of educational resource materials. You will maintain dental charts, records and databases.
Required Qualifications:Completion of a certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Must have access to a reliable vehicle to travel with necessary eqipment to schools for program delivery. Must have valid CPR certification prior to start date and be able to do chest compressions.Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 20kg.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in Public Health.Experience applying pit and fissure sealants and Fluoride Varnish.Experience working with Children.
