Overview
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing exception care for our residents in accordance to physicians orders, established standards and principles including the Nursing Home act; assessing a residents condition and addressing ailments; developing and maintaining individual resident care plans; maintaining accurate clinical records and administering, documenting and safeguarding all drugs and narcotics. Our ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and will promote effective communication with residents, families, visitors, volunteers, students and fellow staff.
- Provide nursing care in accordance with administrative policies, physicians orders, established standards and nursing principles in tandem with Ministry of Long Term Care Act.
- Develop and maintain all resident care plans through interdisciplinary care conferences and care planning.
- Maintain accurate and complete clinical records on all residents according to established documentation policies and procedures all the while ensuring confidentiality of these records.
- In collaboration with colleagues, coordinates departmental adherence to governing corporate policies and procedures and be the subject matter expert within the department.
- Orders drugs and maintains accurate records for all drugs including controlled drugs and narcotics.
- Administers medications according to correct procedures and ensures proper documentation is maintained and continuously up to date.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with College of Nurses in the province of Ontario.
- Post Registered Nurse education in Gerontology.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a geriatric setting.
- Proficiency in a second language will be considered an asset.
Rotation: no rotation available; hours will vary (casual).
Infection prevention and control requirement, as outlined by the O. Reg. 246/22: General under the Fixing long-term care Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, c 39, Sched. 1:
prospective candidates will need to demonstrate screening for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases in accordance with any standard or protocol issued by the Director. This includes DTAP, MMR, Varciella, and Hepatitis B.
