JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Finance Business Analyst.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, FinTech Evolution, this position will provide research and analytical support in the innovation and evolution of Finance processes and their supporting technologies (aka Finance Products).

The successful candidate will champion an agile mindset to shift the organization to a model of continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI / CD) for business and technology innovations. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to the digital evolution of OPG’s Finance function and commitment to operational excellence and financial strength.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

In the immediate term, the successful candidate will be primarily focused on the ERP Lifecycle Program. Experience to perform the following functions are essential:

Develop discrete business process flow diagrams and supporting process narrative documentation; Evaluate Finance business process performance and provide quantifiable opportunities to increase Finance's performance against defined objectives, maturity metrics and/or benchmarks; Support business process re-engineering activities; Identify and investigate new and emerging technology based on understanding of Finance business processes; Identify and investigate new innovations in corporate FinTech and Finance practices based on industry reviews/scans and best practices; Define performance metrics for Finance product enhancements / changes; Define functional and technical requirements for all Finance capabilities (accounting, business planning, controllership, internal controls, etc.); Support the mandate to champion the principles of Finance’s product stewardship model, the Agile Mindset, and excellence in project management and controls; and Support Finance Product Owners in collaboration with IT Projects.

Beyond the ERP Lifecycle Program, the successful candidate will:

Provide financial analysis expertise and advice regarding process changes or investment in new and emerging corporate FinTech. Perform detailed analysis of financial results, including the assessment of variances relative to budget, forecast and actuals, to provide valuable financial insights and recommendations to key stakeholders. Use their keen understand of how financial information is prepared, analyzed, reconciled and reported on, and how journal entries and financial reporting are performed to support the development of innovations and facilitate Finance’s continuous evolution. Develop and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders to ensure continuous integration / continuous delivery of Finance products. Review OPG accounting practices to research and identify business or FinTech innovation / improvement opportunities. Ensures the integrity of the decision support process through support for the preparation and review of corporate FinTech business case summaries. Maintains a professional awareness in relation to current accounting practice, US GAAP and general business environment, the utility industry and communicate impacts and implications.

EDUCATION

4-year university degree in business administration, finance or accounting, engineering, information technology, economics or similar; and Working towards or complete PMP and/or CPA certification preferred ITIL or other technology certifications preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 4 years of business analyst, product owner, finance or accounting working experience. Hands-on experience in enterprise systems (e.g. SAP ECC, SuccessFactors, S/4HANA, SAP BW, SAP BPC), and finance systems (e.g. FP&A and xP&A, EPM and CPM, etc) Experience with financial analysis, controllership, financial and management reporting, and corporate FinTech. Sound professional judgment and decision making, critical thinking, attention to detail and creative problem-solving abilities. Strong interpersonal skills, experience in maintaining productive relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively with key stakeholders at all levels of the company. Ability to work in a cross-functional environment. A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively engage in several projects simultaneously. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio and Project). Preference for experience and exposure from working in highly regulated industries such as utilities, energy, power, mining, or public sector. Preference for experience and familiarity in development of data sets, metrics and dashboards. Preference for experience and familiarity with Azure DevOps, Microsoft PowerBI, Python and SQL.
