Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Home Ventilation Service based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary on a 12 month temporary contract.

This multi-disciplinary team provides support to a unique cohort of patients who require breathing assistance outside of the hospital setting across the Northern Region.

The responsibilities of the role will include general administration duties including answering phone calls from patients and other members of the healthcare team, booking clinic appointments for outreach services and making entries onto the patient database. This role comes with scope to be involved in the development and evolution of the service.

The post holder must be able to work using their own initiative, have excellent communication skills to liaise with patients as well as all members of the clinical team. We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic individual to integrate well within the existing team, be flexible in supporting the functions of the Department and have a genuine desire to contribute to providing a quality service for patients.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibility of the role is to work within a team to provide admin support to the Consultants, Junior Medical Staff, Nurse Specialists and all other clinical staff to ensure smooth running of the service.

The role will include answering the main departmental telephone line, responding to general, equipment and appointment queries from patients and other members of the healthcare team. The role will also include use of the eRecord system for booking and changing appointments to sure all patient information is captured correctly.

The ability to work flexibly as part of a team and the understanding of confidentiality issues is essential.

Job responsibilities

Working within a team of administrative staff supporting the provision of an efficient secretarial support service to Consultants, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff within their team, Specialist Nurses. Audio typing of letters and documents. Deal with telephone enquires promptly. Communicate with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of medical staff. Cover admin posts Trust wide as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential

oMinimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 9 - 4 (A* - C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience oOCR I or equivalent qualification / experience oUnderstanding of confidentiality issues

Desirable

oSuccessful completion of an intermediate (level 2) apprenticeship in Business Administration

Knowledge & Experience
