BC Cancer-Vancouver seeks an Associate Physician in Radiation Oncology to join our team to provide clinical and academic services.

BC Cancer – Vancouver is a full service cancer centre with strong medical oncology, surgical oncology, diagnostic imaging, pathology, oral oncology, supportive care and functional imaging services and an inpatient unit. It is one of the largest comprehensive cancer centers in Canada with 33 Radiation Oncologists, 10 General Practitioners in Oncology and 2 Nurse Practitioners. The department has a longstanding reputation for clinical excellence and academia. The facility has 10 linear accelerators (including a VERO machine with tumour tracking capability), a Cobalt machine, 2 CT simulators, an operating theater, and a brachytherapy suite. Vancouver will have two new ETHOs machines. Vancouver has established programs in precision radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and brachytherapy and has broad research interests in all tumor sites and additional areas including health equity, indigenous cancer care, medical education and quality improvement.

The BC Cancer’s population-based model and resultant databases provide outstanding opportunities for outcome-based research. The Centre participates actively in several clinical trials groups. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative care team committed to excellence, to participate in clinical, research, administrative and educational activities.

Applicants come with the ability to perform within the scope of Associate Physician duties and responsibilities. Applicants must have a detailed knowledge of oncology and specific experience in radiation oncology management, treatment planning and delivery would be an asset. Applicants are able to interact, and adapt effectively with other professionals in complex, dynamic situations. Ability to communicate and collaborate with families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and follow up. Applicants bring excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team and the ability to document in accordance with CPSBC and organizational standards, policies, and guidelines. Applicants demonstrate the ability to perform assessments and examinations. Within this responsibility, the successful candidate will work actively to encourage a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and respect within the entire healthcare team.

Applicants will have a medical degree, and a minimum of 2 years’ training in a Radiation Oncology postgraduate medical training program. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia in the Associate Physician Class and will be assigned a supervisor.

Remuneration will be based on experience and in accordance with the PHSA compensation framework for Associate Physicians.

Start date is as soon as possible.

Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019). Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
