Position Purpose and Summary
The Associate Chaplain (TWU Richmond) is responsible for engaging students in spiritually meaningful ways through ministry programs that foster personal relationships and discipleship consistent with our mission, vision, and statement of faith.
The Associate Chaplain is accountable to the University Chaplain and is charged with the responsibility implement and execute a clear and compelling vision for Campus Ministries aligned with the University’s vision: “every graduate is equipped to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the world and the glory of God.” Attentive to the unique needs of students, staff, and faculty in Richmond, the Associate Chaplain will embody Christ-centred, missional, and culturally-sensitive evangelism, discipleship, pastoral care and outreach.
TWU’s Campus Ministries exists to nurture Christian disciples in an increasingly secular post-Christian West. The Associate Chaplain will work, in close partnership with others in the Student Life division, foster a collaborative, innovative, and agile mindset and approach to missional work and ministry.
Key Outcomes (Areas of Accountability)
Evangelism (Acts 2:1-41)
Design and implement an evangelistic strategy. Reach all students with the gospel of grace and equip them to take the gospel into the world.
Design and implement a unified and coordinated strategy for evangelism and outreach to Richmond students;Foster training to equip students to take the gospel to their respective communities, both in Canada and abroad.Biblical Knowledge (Acts 2:42)
Engage students in Christ-centred Bible studies through a sophisticated, calibrated discipleship strategy and curriculum.
Provide opportunities for students to engage in Bible studies;Ensure an effective and thorough discipleship curriculum is in place.Fellowship (Acts 2:42-46)
Develop fellowship events to foster relationship among students, staff, and faculty. These events will serve as winsome doorways into evangelistic and discipleship endeavors.
Organize short, powerful engagements that foster fellowship among the students with each other, staff, and faculty;Develop relationships (and partnerships) with trusted local churches;Connect students to the worshiping life of trusted local churches.Worship (Acts 2:47)
Provide students with opportunities to witness, participate, and serve in Christian worship at TWU Richmond, specifically through thoughtfully designed chapel services.
Create and organize new opportunities for worship at TWU Richmond;Foster engagement of student participation in worship initiatives.Prayer (Acts 1:14)
Schedule regular prayer initiatives occurs across TWU Richmond’s campuses.
Organize and coordinate prayer initiatives to the entire TWU Richmond community, including students, faculty, and staff.Service (Acts 3:10)
Explore opportunities for students to serve the local community.
Dialogue and partner with the Associate Director of Outreach and the Centre for Calling and Career Development to find creative ways to provide opportunities and motivate service to local communities (e.g., by articulation of how such service projects can function as potent resumé builders).Strategical Planning and Growth (Acts 4:12-16)
Develop ministry strategies for with students that will be designed and undertaken with an eye toward scalability, with the anticipation and systemic preparedness for growth.
Create and maintain a dashboard of quantitative and qualitative statistics designed to track, evaluate, and adapt ministry initiatives for maximal impact; seek continuous improvement in all ministry areas;Work creatively and responsibly within an allotted budget.Collaborate with the Richmond Staff Team and Student Leaders (Acts 1:15-26; 6:1-7)
Develop and foster a priority among the staff to meet the spiritual needs of the students. Work to resource faculty and staff towards this end.

Standards & Requirements
Education: MDiv or MA, preferably in Divinity/Theology/Biblical Studies
Experience: Significant leadership in a church or other parachurch context
