Job Summary:

The Librarian provides support to students and faculty in the areas of scholarly communication and copyright. The incumbent will deliver services related to scholarly communication, open education, research data management, and copyright.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

Scholarly Communications Support

Provide advice and support with research identity management for researchers at Ontario Tech and Durham College Assist researchers/faculty with publishing choices, standard agreements, rights and management of intellectual property Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and promote publishing options  Support faculty and students to disseminate research 

Open Education Outreach and Advocacy

Assist faculty with locating, assessing, and using open educational resources for use in teaching, learning and research Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning departments at Ontario Tech and Durham College on initiatives related to Open Education  Create and deliver instruction for faculty on the use of Open Education Participate in advocacy initiatives to increase the institutions adoption of Open Educational resources

Research and Data Management

Support and promote library platforms for research and data preservation and dissemination including institutional repository, open journal system, data repository  Provide advice to researchers on which Library supports can assist them in maintaining compliance with research funding requirements  Conduct outreach to faculty and department in collaboration with subject liaison librarians, instructional designers and other stakeholders 

Copyright Education and Support 

Respond to queries from students and faculty related to copyright and intellectual property Provide responses based on pre-determined policies, guidelines and best practices Escalates complex requests and/or queries involving material risk to the Library Leadership Team Conduct outreach and deliver instruction on copyright to Library users Create educational and promotional material such as online research guides, to augment awareness of copyright 

Required Skills:

Assessment anddevelopment of service offerings in scholarly communications and copyright Application andpromotion of research identifiers ( DOI, ORCID) Ability to applycopyright regulations in an advisory capacity Excellent written andverbal communication Ability to collaboratewith internal and external stakeholders Advocacy for openscholarship models Presentation skills Problem solving

Required Knowledge:

Canadian copyright law Issues relating tointellectual property, including licensing The creation and useof open educational resources in post-secondary teaching and learning The scholarlypublishing landscape Existing and emergingscholarly publishing models Requirements forcompliance with Tri-Agency funding requirements

Required Education:

Completion of an ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies, or equivalent Completion of anUndergraduate Degree plus professional certification An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered

Required Experience:

Over 1 year andincluding 3 years of experience required An equivalent combination of education and relatedexperience may be considered
