Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada (FHCP) represents Canada’s largest manufacturing workforce, employing over 350,000 people in nearly 10,000 locations from coast to coast. The organization represents companies large and small that make the products Canadians rely on every day – the food, health and household staples found in kitchens, pantries, and medicine cabinets across the country. Now, with increasing desire for a healthier, more sustainable, and ethical food and packaged goods system, FHCP is seeking a new member to join its sustainability team to support their proactive work with governments to shape public policy and industry actions for the benefit of Canadians and ensure that Canadian companies are on competitive footings in a rapidly changing environment.
Reporting to the Vice President of Sustainability, the new Director of Sustainability will be a leader within the department and will be directly engaged in federal, provincial and territorial regulatory and policy development and industry initiatives to influence the advancement of a circular economy and improve environmental performance. Working with members and industry partners, this role requires a solutions-minded consensus builder tasked with informing policy and best practices on Extended Producer Responsibility, emissions reduction, data collection and reporting. This is a rapidly evolving regulatory, policy and market landscape that requires adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning.
To excel in this position, the successful candidate will be a strong leader and team player with expertise in regulatory affairs and sustainability. They are results-oriented, meticulous, strategic, and analytical, and take a consultative and transparent approach when facilitating discussions with internal and external stakeholders. While laughter is encouraged, they maintain professionalism at all times and strive to ensure the success of their team and the organization. As they are jumping into a new role, they must be agile and thrive in changing, complex and ambiguous environments. Bilingualism in both official languages will be considered an asset. What’s more, you also have:
A post-secondary degree in a relevant field, such as sustainability. 10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, sustainability or ESG. Direct experience in emissions reduction (including target setting, measurement and reporting), circular economy, EPR an asset. Experience within grocery, manufacturing or recycling sectors, or within an environmental organization. A sound ability to understand and interpret both technical and regulatory documents. Ability to communicate information quickly, clearly, and rationally – both written and verbal, to internal and external stakeholders. Exceptional written communication skills to compile technical information for presentations and submissions. A strong ability to perform effectively as an individual contributor as well as a collaborator and within a team.Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Food, Health & Consumer Products Canada is an equal opportunity employer. In accordance with the Accessible Canada Act, 2019 and all applicable provincial accessibility standards, upon request, accommodation will be provided by both Odgers Berndtson and FHCPthroughout the recruitment, selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.
