The Opportunity:

Responsible for ensuring the integrity of CommunityServices Division’s financial and accounting records. Provides direction andsupport for the Director of Community Services, Director of ProtectiveServices, Superintendents, Managers and their associated Supervisors,Coordinators and staff and associated agencies such as the Red Deer PublicLibrary, River Bend Golf & Recreation Society, Waskasoo EnvironmentalEducation Society (WEES) and Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery (MAG). 

Provides financial and administrative supportincluding interpreting, reporting and overseeing internal controls to theCommunity Services Division Director, Protective Services Division Director,Superintendents, Managers and their associated staff. Monitors operating and capital budgets andperforms transactional accounting functions for the division. Participates in financial projects that meetthe needs of the areas within the Community Services Division.

As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

Completion of an undergraduate degree majoring inaccounting or finance. Completion of the CPA designation. Four years performing accounting duties and providingfinancial analysis and advice for a large organization, preferably within amunicipal community services environment. Must have knowledge of generally accepted accountingprincipals (GAAP), specifically as they relate to a municipal accountingenvironment and procedures as applied in an integrated computer environment. Four years’ experience in the use of complexcomputerized accounting systems. Knowledge and experience with business software suchas Word and Power Point is required with advanced Excel skills. Demonstrates the City of Red Deer’s four RISEprinciples of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence. Demonstrable experience in applying accounting theoryin conjunction with approved policies and procedures. Strong ability to process a high volume of informationaccurately on a daily basis and within tight deadlines is necessary. Must be able to manage several tasks at once, somewith conflicting priorities. Experience in leading, training and educating staff. Ability to problem solve and communicate effectivelyboth verbally and in writing, with a variety of internal and externalstakeholders including consultants, government officials and agencies isrequired. Proficient use of basic office equipment, i.e.photocopier, fax machine, calculator, etc. Working knowledge of office, accounting and recordsmanagement procedures.

Remuneration:

$41.46 to $43.58 per hour.

Hours of Work:

75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening andweekend work may be required.

Additional Information:

The term of this position is anticipated to beapproximately 12 months.
