As an Internal Communications Advisor, you will provide strategic advice on complex internal communications issues facing the organization and support internal communications with a special focus on the County Manager's Office. You will collaborate and build integral relationships across the organization. You will develop and continuously improve internal communications practices. You will help create a positive environment and culture in which change can occur.

The Communications department works to protect and enhance the County's reputation while advancing its strategic and operational policies, programs, services, and initiatives. The team coordinates and provides corporate communication services for the County, including communications planning, external and internal communications implementation, media relations, stakeholder relations, marketing, issues management, crisis communication, and new and digital media. The department also provides communications support to County Council. The Communications and Marketing department is part of the Corporate Services and Strategy Service Area.

Under the direction of the Director, Communications and Marketing, this senior communications position works with a large degree of independence while engaging in frequent and ongoing interaction with all levels of leaders across departments to monitor transformative internal communications projects.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate integrated internal communications and consultation plans that effectively support Council's Strategic Plan, the County Business plan and Communications  and Marketing department business plan and project plans. Anticipate and manage change and generate understanding about politically and organizationally sensitive initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain the corporate intranet, including developing processes and procedures, training and ongoing support of staff and leaders, and ongoing evaluation of intranet performance.
  • Collaborate and build relationships throughout the organization with employees at all levels to plan, prepare and deliver quality internal communications consistently and clearly.
  • Provide strategic advice to staff and leadership on internal communications. Proactively identify internal communications issues and needs.
  • Produce tactics to effectively execute internal communications and consultation plans, including utilizing storytelling to increase internal understanding, facilitate employee action and inspire internal organizational connection.
  • Maintain the internal communications budget, including the corporate intranet.

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism
  • Relevant experience in corporate communications, preferably in the public sector
  • Membership with International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) an asset
  • Passionate about writing engaging stories with extensive knowledge of communication practices and principles
  • Advanced computer skills, organizational and written communication skills, and the ability to learn and adapt to changing situations
  • Experience in print and digital design
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a time-efficient manner
  • Possession of a valid class 5 Alberta driver's license and satisfactory driving record


Additional Information

Closing date: This posting will be open until a suitable candidate found. 

Pay rate:  $50.34 to $59.22 hourly

  • This position is temporary full-time, for approximately 20 months with the possibility of extension, and includes benefits. 
  • We're offering a hybrid, 35-hour work week with paid or banked overtime at a 1.5x rate.
