Department:  CardioRespiratory Services – Home Oxygen Program / Outpatient Respiratory Testing

Status : Casual 

Hours: Monday to Friday - - or - (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)

This is what you’ll be doing: 

Work in the Home Oxygen Program assessing patients, teaching, and performing necessary diagnostic evaluation tests in clients homes throughout the Halton Region. Monitor patients attending Respiratory Rehab. Program at hospital as needed. Reporting in interdisciplinary chart. Responsible for all modalities of oxygen delivery devices. Work with oxygen provider to ensure patients' needs are met. Responsible for marketing and being a liaison between doctors, clinics, other hospitals and other community caregivers, etc. Completion of necessary Ministry of Health paperwork in a timely fashion.

In the Outpatient Respiratory Testing Lab, perform outpatient and diagnostic testing including PFT/MCT/HAST/Single Blind studies, spirometry and arterial blood gases. Responsible for daily calibration of equipment and ordering of supplies and reprocessing of equipment. Teach patients and staff throughout the hospital as required. Participate in departmental quality assurance activity. Comply with occupational health and safety requirements. Assist with departmental policy and procedure development and review

Current registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario required Current BCLS at time of hire Minimum 2 years related Respiratory Therapy experience Prior working experience working in a Home Oxygen program an asset Knowledge of Ministry of Health Guidelines for home oxygen an asset Knowledge of CPAP equipment an asset CPR instructors certificate an asset Excellent skills in clinical evaluation (auscultation, BP, saturation monitoring, general assessment) Able to draw Arterial Blood Gases Working knowledge of various types of oxygen equipment Must be able to work independently and respond to emergency situations Highly motivated with demonstrated initiative and organizational skills Access to a reliable vehicle for travel throughout Halton Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Compassion and understanding when caring for patients and their care givers Satisfactory employment and attendance record
