Position Overview

Reporting to the Community & Indigenous Relations Manager, this position will support Indigenous Relations in a variety of tasks, including stakeholder engagement and major projects initiatives.

 

This opportunity is open to candidates in 3rd year or higher of a University Program pursuing a Co-op opportunity. The position is available to students seeking a four or eight month placement. Throughout the duration of the work term, the successful candidate may be required to work on evenings and/or weekends, and travel may be required.  

In this role, you will:
  • Build upon relationships between FortisBC and local communities, municipalities, and Indigenous communities
  • Provide support to the Community & Indigenous Initiatives team, including:
    • Stakeholder tracking
    • Communications
    • Event planning and attendance
    • Attending internal and external project meetings
  • Develop and deliver presentations
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned
What it takes:
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate post-secondary program in a related field - 3rd or 4th year required
  • Enrollment in a Co-op program
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to network and develop collaborative relationships 
  • Manage inquiries from public & key stakeholders in an educated and professional manner 
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office  
  • Administrative and organizational skills
  • Project management
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal with and work well with others 
  • Public speaking
  • Well developed communication skills
  • Professional writing, interpersonal & presentation skills 
  • Time management and scheduling
  • Problem solving 
  • Knowledge of Sharepoint an asset 
  • Understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, as well as British Columbia’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples 
  • Knowledge of the utility industry an asset 
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
