About the role
On-site | Seasonal or Co-op | Junior Level
Working as part of the Organics team, the laboratory analyst is responsible for all aspects of laboratory analysis including production, time management, quality control and turnaround time.
Key Responsibilities:
Analysis of semi-volatile parameters using split/splitless GCFID and /or GCECD, and volatile parameters using Headspace GCFID; Acquisition and calculations are performed using ChromPerfect software; Daily tasks will include GC maintenance and basic troubleshooting; All AN1 associated duties; Extractions in the lab, as needed; Work-scheduling for a particular instrument or analytical method – includes the use of Webview; Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc.; Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.) Perform all required quality control procedures; Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation; Communicate with the Client Services staff as required; Conduct work following all required safety protocols; Deliver accurate results to our clients in a timely manner; Technical decision making for non-routine, complex analyses or matrices; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned.About you:
Intermediate English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading); Intermediate user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with confident computer skills; Organized, analytical, and process oriented; High attention to detail; Strong problem solving skills; Ability to handle pressure from high sample volumes and competing turnaround times; Work independently and as part of a team; Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required; Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.Required Qualifications:
B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry, or related discipline is required; 1 year organics extractions experience is preferred; Experience with GC is preferred.Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs/14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances; Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Ability to stand for a full shift; Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.Working at ALS

At the time of this posting, the estimate pay range is $21.88 - $24.07/hr CAD. Within this range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
