As an Urban Conservation Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a group of ecologists to oversee the management of Calgary's natural area parks. This includes coordinating Habitat Condition Rating assessments, prioritizing habitat restoration priorities, reviewing applications for construction/maintenance projects in natural areas, and many more activities. Additionally, as a supervisor you will provide technical analyses and interpret results to the Urban Conservation Lead and Parks Management Team, when required. You will also be responsible for Urban Conservation data tracking in order to align portfolio reporting with City policy directives and departmental performance standards. Primary duties include:

Coordinate and manage day-to-day duties of a team of 5 ecologists, who themselves manage our natural area parks. Coordinate technical analyses and interpret results to UC lead; perform trend analyses and evaluate ecological data from various sources; standardize reporting across UC, facilitate change in operational data workflows and summarize performance indicators for Parks and departmental managers. Coordinate the human resource functions of all direct reports including recruitment, mentoring, training, discipline and termination, performance management and assigning work. Provide the portfolio with appropriate technology and tools as well as design monitoring and evaluation frameworks for Urban Conservation programs. Foster partnerships and collaborations with external researchers and develop opportunities for public participation in scientific research or monitoring. Qualifications  A degree in the Natural Sciences (biology, ecology, or similar discipline) with a at least 8 years of progressively more responsible experience in environmental assessment and planning. A Master's Degree in the Natural Sciences will be considered an asset. Membership in the Alberta Society for Professional Biologists will be considered an asset. Experience in leading a team will be considered an asset. Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), and GIS Technology, will be considered an asset. Success in this position requires: excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong management and leadership skills, project management skills, mentoring skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
