The Public Health manager is a key front line leadership role who is responsible for a team of nurses [LPN, RN] and administrative support, as well as provides leadership to specialty teams. This manager leads zone programs and staff reporting to respective sites, which requires travel to support. This position is responsible to work within the Public Health Act; under the direction and partnership of the Medical Officer of Health along with organization policies and clinical best practice guidelines. This position requires keen communication, dynamic problem solving and a strong desire to support clients improve wellbeing through public health actions in the continuum of the health system. This position is negotiable within the South Zone, preferably within the eastern portion of the zone ( Medicine Hat, Taber, Brooks). Description:

The Manager is a key leadership role in Population and Public Health, reporting to the Director of Public Health, Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management. The Manager is responsible and accountable for managing the operational team in rural and urban locations with the planning, delivery and quality improvement for generalist Public Health Nurses and administrative support, as well as special teams within the program [, Sexual Health, School Health, Newcomer Health]; in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The Public Health Manager, working in close partnership with their Director, is accountable for the delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-focused care for their assigned program areas and sites. The Public Health Manager is accountable for establishing and maintaining working relationships with external and internal stakeholders, collaborating with clients and families as partners in care. This role has Financial Management accountability to plan, determine, manage and monitor assigned budget(s), authorize expenditures and have complete accountability for multi-faceted budgets. This role has People Resource accountability with the supervision of staff, oversight of contracted workers along with coaching/mentoring/advising peers performing the same or related duties. The Manager position has cross-functional accountabilities with Rural Site Managers, Clinical Operations Directors, Managers and Provincial Programs. This role is supported by specialized technical expertise and strong working relationships with Medical Officers of Health and other clinicians.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of post-secondary education in a health-related profession. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Membership and current registration with an appropriate Alberta Regulated Health Profession.

Ability to foster a climate of cooperation among and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees and other partners.
