About the Role:

Our client, a leading construction company, is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to oversee and update their Occupational Health and Safety Program. This role ensures compliance with local and provincial safety regulations across multiple sites, including the Head Office, Yard Operations, and Field Operations. The ideal candidate will lead workplace safety initiatives, conduct inspections, manage training programs, and advocate for safety within the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance: Implement and enforce Health and Safety policies across all sites.
Worksite Analysis: Proactively identify hazards and prevent accidents through data analysis and trend identification.
Training: Conduct and audit all necessary health and safety training, maintaining up-to-date records.
Reporting: Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting in line with OHSA and company standards.
Program Management: Regularly review and update the Health & Safety Program, maintaining certifications such as COR/ISO.
Qualifications:

Education: Post-secondary education in a related field; Gold Seal Designation is a plus.
Certifications: NCSO and COR/ISO Internal Auditor Certification required.
Experience: At least five years in Health and Safety Management within the construction industry.

Responsibilities
- Compliance Management: Implement and enforce Health and Safety policies across all project sites, ensuring adherence to local and provincial regulations.
- Worksite Analysis: Conduct regular inspections, identify hazards, and analyze accident data to prevent workplace injuries and improve safety practices.
- Training Programs: Plan, conduct, and audit health and safety training for all employees, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
- Reporting and Documentation: Ensure thorough and timely completion of all required documentation, adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and company standards.
- Program Review: Regularly evaluate and update the company’s Health & Safety Program, ensuring it meets the latest OHSA regulations and maintains certifications like COR/ISO.
- Accident Prevention: Manage the identification and analysis of hazards and near-misses, developing proactive solutions to prevent incidents.
- Workers Compensation Management: Oversee the return to work and modified duty programs, and communicate relevant workers’ compensation information to senior management.
- Safety Advocacy: Act as an advocate for health and safety within the industry, promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Qualifications
Education:
Post-secondary education in a related discipline, such as Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a similar field.
Gold Seal Certification (an asset or working towards it).

Certifications:
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification.
COR/ISO Internal Auditor Certification.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of experience in Health and Safety Management within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of construction processes and safety best practices.

Skills:
Proficiency in health and safety regulations, particularly the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software tools for maintaining safety databases and documentation.

Summary
This role as Health & Safety Manager involves overseeing and enhancing a comprehensive safety program across multiple construction sites, ensuring compliance with all regulations and promoting a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate will have relevant certifications, at least five years of industry experience, and a proactive approach to accident prevention and safety training.
