Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. 

Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $ per hour. 

Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $ per hour. 

In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. (3 hours demonstrating, 2 hours marking, 2 hours preparation, 3 hours tutorial/support). Under the direction of the course instructor, the incumbent is required to be familiar with field techniques, present an introduction to the lab, demonstrate ecological concepts and have strong background with outdoor sampling techniques and assessment, teach and assist students during the lab and project development, maintain safe field/ laboratory conditions, be responsible for lab preparation and clean-up, keep attendance and mark assignments/project outcomes, mark lab reports, and attend meetings as needed. Attendance at the Divisional Science Safety Seminar is a department requirement. Participation in TA Orientation Day is recommended. Willrequired to prepare and/or maintainfield equipment and perform tasks as directed by the course instructor.

Qualifications

1. MSc in Biology with specialty in Ecologyand demonstratedlabs in the last 5 years.

2. Completed BIOL 2Q04 or an equivalent course with a minimum grade of 75%.

3. Demonstrated competence working for at least one year in a BIOL research laboratory.

4. Relevant field experience
