Your Opportunity:

The unique SMART Initiative, funded by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), is a 4-year project aiming to reduce barriers to foreign credential recognition, provide Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) with Canadian work experience, facilitate labor mobility across provinces and territories and assist IEHPs in understanding their role in the Canadian health system and its culture.The SMART Initiative (A Sustainable, Multi-Collaborator approach from Arrival to Readiness for Practice and Transition) offers the only comprehensive program in Canada that enhances existing pathways for Career & Learning Development, Practice Readiness, Mentorship, Work Placement and Social Support for IEHPs. The initiative will be a demonstration project in Alberta that is designed with flexibility for scaling across Canada. The Alberta International Medical Graduate Association (AIMGA) is a co-applicant in the grant, and the programs and tools that AIMGA have developed to support International Medical Graduates (IMGs) will be leveraged and scaled in this project. The initiative complements or expands existing efforts to support the integration of IEHPs into the workforce through three deliverables: SMART Hub: A multi-lingual web-based concierge platform for IEHPs and their mentors.Microlearning Journey: Blended learning curriculums to assist both in the integration of IEHPs into the Alberta health system, and for training mentors to support IEHPs.Mentor Community of Practice: Strengthen networking and learning for mentors. The SMART Initiative is complex and will involve advanced business, project and technical subject matter expertise. The national scope, scalability, and replicability aspects are essential success elements, as is extensive collaboration and engagement with other Canadian healthcare jurisdictions and colleges.

Description:

The Senior Practice Consultant – Allied Health will report directly to the FCRP Program Manager under the Director of Innovation and Business Intelligence and to FCRP program deliverables to the respective lead in Allied Health and FCRP Work Group TOR. The Senior Practice Consultant – Allied Health will develop and facilitate education activities to promote clinical competence in a cohort of internationally educated Allied Health professionals for the SMART Initiative. They will develop streamlined information, programming and tools to support international hires accelerate their readiness for practice as well as Allied Health Workforce Planning and Career Planning strategies and practices (recruitment, retention, preceptor development, innovative placements, future-ready workforce, etc.) The Senior Practice Consultant – Allied Health will Identify and lead development of blended learning opportunities for internationally hired allied health staff. The Senior Practice Consultant – Allied Health will also:Lead planning, implementation and evaluation initiatives. Collaborate with practice and operational leaders at local, zone, and provincial levels. Is accountable for initiatives that increase patient safety, clinical appropriateness, quality person-centred care, improve practice efficiency, and reduce variation in practice. Stimulates provider engagement, collaborative practice, service standardization, holistic and integrated approaches. Has strong knowledge and experience in professional practice, quality improvement, change leadership, and knowledge translation. Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with practice and operational leaders in the zones and across the province; and with key internal and external collaborators.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Master’s degree. A Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy or occupational therapy. Registration with the relevant regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Professional experience with IEHPs and addressing their barriers to practice.Experience as an international hire. Experience and course work in collaborative practice, evaluation, quality improvement, change, and project leadership.
