The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mine Equiment Trainer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday Schedule .

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Mine Training Coordinator, the Mine Equipment Trainer is responsible for providing safe and quality equipment training, including training on standard operating procedures (SOPs), and numerous pieces of mobile equipment to ensure equipment operators’ competency and professional development while maximizing equipment utilization and enhancing production safety.

Key Responsibilities

Stands as a courageous safety leader by promoting and supporting the creation of a strong safety culture and safe practices and leading by example, Participates in safety initiatives, toolbox meetings, hazard identification and incident investigations, Provides training and coaching of operators in the safe and efficient operation of all mobile equipment, including classroom work and fieldwork, Gives direction and instruction to the Mine Operations’ identified peer trainers who assist with training, Conducts initial and periodic competency assessments of equipment operators and provides feedback to the Operator, Supervisor, and General Supervisor, Evaluates equipment operators on their abilities to operate the equipment and other day-to-day activities safely and effectively to develop them to produce high-quality equipment operating skills, Documents all competency assessment information, and standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance, Maintains accurate records of training events, provides training reports to the Mine Training Coordinator, and ensures they are available upon request by Ministry of Mines personnel, Implements training action plans for operators that require further education, training, and coaching, Assists in the development of any future computer-based learning/training programs, Partakes in continuous improvement initiatives of the department and the development and implementation of new training programs, Facilitates effective and timely delivery of established internal training materials, systems, and processes targeting improvement of equipment operator knowledge and skills, Provides regular updates and feedback to mine operations supervisors on training programs, their outcomes, and logistical issues, Utilizes available resources to provide professional Mine Operations training manual to further assist with the development and skill level progression of equipment operators, Contributes to the onboarding process for new hires, Works collaboratively with the Mine Operations department to ensure productions goals are achieved, Performs any other responsibilities related to the Equipment Trainer as required or as assigned by the Mine Training Coordinator.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED), Minimum of five plus (5+) years of experience in mining, construction, and/or drilling, Valid open pit Shiftboss Certificate is considered an asset, Safety Certifications, such as Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, and others are considered an asset, First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset, Experience in delivering training packages, utilizing learning theories/styles appropriate to the workforce, Adult training experience in relevant fields is considered an asset, Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and audio/visual presentation equipment, Operating knowledge of Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC, Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Skill in conveying information logically, simply, succinctly, and at the right pace to ensure understanding, if necessary, presenting information in different ways to enhance trainees’ understanding, Skill in building trusting relationships at all levels and reinforcing trainees’ ability to learn by showing empathy and understanding in response to stated training concerns, Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees, Advanced knowledge of loaders, shovels, graders, and haul trucks, Ability to get trained on the policies that govern the safe use of the trolley assist system and proper trolley assist training methods/materials, Proven leader with a focus on people development, Details and results-oriented with the ability to multi-task, and adhere to deadlines.

Working Conditions

Work includes a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings, Frequent exposure to various conditions associated with working outdoors, including weather conditions, e.g., rain, snow, heat, cold, hiking, and working in remote locations, Work requires performing repetitive heavy lifting or moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds, Work involves operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving.

Salary Range

$100K - $120K / annum.
