About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Testing Support Associate, Molecular Testing to join our dynamic Testing team.

In this role, you will provide process support and subject matter expertise to the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)/Molecular Testing laboratories. You will also establish, implement, monitor and evaluate the results of relevant key performance indicators (KPI) and ensure excellent customer service is provided to both internal and external customers. You will be required to provide subject matter expertise that will assist in planning and implementation of new projects or initiatives. 

Formula for success

Drawing on your knowledge and experience in laboratory functions, you will provide process and quality improvement support to the HLA/Molecular Testing laboratories by developing, preparing and reviewing Work Instructions (WIs), forms and training materials to ensure regulatory requirements, consistency and standardization are maintained. Utilizing your knowledge and understanding of HLA/Molecular Testing, you will participate in the development and implementation of training material and educational sessions in collaboration with the site Managers to ensure that the Molecular Testing training needs are identified and standardized, as required.  Leveraging your collaborative and communication skills, you will liaise with other Canadian Blood Services departments (Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, IT, Medical Services, Document Control, and Change Review Boards), as required, and participate in new projects or initiatives for HLA/Molecular Testing laboratories by providing input in the development of project proposals/plans, business cases, project related validation scripts, decision documents.  As a subject matter expert in molecular testing, you will provide technical support to the HLA/Molecular Testing laboratories to facilitate problem solving and issue resolution pertaining to molecular methodologies or computer applications and coordinate regular meetings with vendors to resolve current and outstanding issues. You will also draw on your expertise to participate in the evaluation and product selection of test kits, reagents, equipment and/or software by developing user requirements, specifications, selection criteria and decision matrices to ensure the selection of the appropriate product.  Applying your continuous improvement mindset, you will monitor the quality control program and test performance through monthly reports and recommend corrective action measures. 

Desired education and skills

Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution. A Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Science or Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) or equivalent experience is preferred. An appropriate Provincial Medical Laboratory Technologist License is required.  A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a HLA/Molecular Testing laboratory is preferred.  Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English.  Proficiency in computer software Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Advanced problem-solving, analytical, planning and time management skills.
