In response to the overdose crisis, Cool Aid increased access to harm reductionsupports and education through the Overdose Prevention Unit (OPU). Thisincludes peer supports. Our objective is to meet clients ‘where they are at’.

The Harm Reduction Worker helps promote safe use and cultural safety within thesite. Working at the OPU site, you will interact with service users, distributeharm reduction materials, and provide addictions information and referrals whenrequired. Our role is to have a realistic and humane approach to supportingclients that access OPU services with the aim to help prevent overdose deaths.

The OPU is fully integrated into all aspects of the Rock Bay Landing program.The purpose of the OPU is to improve health outcomes for people who use illicitsubstances. Many of the people who use this service will be existing clients ofthe Rock Bay Landing shelter. As the Harm Reduction Worker, you will workcollaboratively with both internal andexternal support networks, and the overall Rock Bay Landing Shelter Team toprovide integrated supports to clients accessing the site’s services.

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in a related human or social services field. Two (2) years of directexperience working in a harm reductive setting, including shelters or supportive housing. A demonstrated highlevel of knowledge regarding safer substance use practices, substance usetreatment, referrals, and available resources. Overdose Prevention and Naloxone training, and crisis intervention skills.

Requirements

Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C. Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check. Job Information Hourly Wage Rate  $30.18 - $33.49.
Work Location  535 Ellice St - Rock Bay Landing. Work Days Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and every other Tuesday.
Shift Time 2:30pm - 10:30pm.
Total Weekly Hours 28. Union  BCGEU. Benefits  Eligible for 100% employer paid benefits. We offer  comprehensive extended health and dental plans. Job Type: Part-time, permanent. Portability  Candidate upon hire may be eligible to transfer the hours worked with other Community Social Services Agencies under the Retention and Portability memorandum. Some restrictions may apply.As of November 1, 2021, Cool Aid requires that all its staff are fully vaccinated (7 days past their second dose of vaccine) against COVID-19.
