The Job – Carpenter (General Repair Technician)

General Repair Technicians (GRTs) at On Side are “Jacks of all Trades” who rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state GRTs use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a GRT.

What you’re responsible for…

The multi-talented GRT is skilled in many of the following ways:

Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts Metal stud framing Drywalling (patchwork) and finishing Ceiling installation, knockdown and texturing Insulation and vapour barrier installation Being awesome, in general Brush and roller painting such as walls, ceilings, trim. (Landscapes and portraiture not required) Installation Doors Trim, moldings and baseboards Hardware installation Cabinetry

What you bring

The GRT brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

5+ years’ experience as carpenter (residential) 3+ years’ experience in other areas of construction such as drywalling, insulation, installation, painting, cabinetry Experience working in construction environments with tools and the skills to use them Strong people and communication skills (Ability to communicate in English) Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do A safety mindset Valid driver’s license and ability to pass criminal record check (we do check) Restoration experience preferred.

Past industry experience that can translate to success in this job: “Jack-of-All-Trades”, carpenter, drywallers, painters, handyman, labourer, general contractor, building maintenance

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker) IICRC certification (restoration focus) WHMIS First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.
