Description

Based at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) outside Fort Saskatchewan, the E&I Engineer in Training will report to the Manager, Reliability & Discipline Engineering and work under the mentorship of the site senior electrical engineer and senior instrumentation specialists to support the PDH, PP and CUB facilities. The role will collaborate with operations, maintenance, technical team members and other cross-functional teams to deliver reliable plant performance. This is a development role suited to a candidate who is interested in growing and developing as an engineer in the electrical and instrumentation field within an integrated operating facility. 

Key Activities and Responsibilities:
• Provide day-to-day technical support. Work cross-functionally with operations and maintenance to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve electrical and instrumentation issues 
• Develop and execute Management of Change (MOC) projects
• Support front-end development and conduct stage reviews for capital projects
• Support the Asset Care Program (ACP) with focus on spares and PM optimization
• Perform simple Root Cause Analysis for electrical and instrumentation failures and incidents; coordinate investigation, share learnings and facilitate implementation of recommendations
• Support Outage and Turnaround planning and execution
• Support senior electrical engineer and senior instrument specialists with:
o Power distribution management and power system studies (load flow, short circuit, and arc flash)
o Electrical heat tracing
o Electrical isolation planning
o Regulatory audits, such as AESO audits
o Equipment performance and condition monitoring
o Equipment ‘Bad Actor’ management
o Reliability assessments and performance metrics such as MTBF, MTTF 
• Perform other discipline specific tasks and assignments as requested by senior electrical engineer and senior instrument specialists
• Develop competency in interpretation and application of industry regulations, standards and codes, as well as internal engineering standards

Education, Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and registered as Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA
• 1 to 3 years of petrochemical, refinery or operating plant experience is preferred
• Power generation experience will be an asset
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
• Good communication and technical writing abilities 
• Attention to detail, and demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Quick learner, with strong desire to grow and develop under the mentorship of senior engineers/specialists

Hours:
Monday-Friday fulltime, 9 hours per day, every second Friday off 

As this position is identified as safety and/or security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
