Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada’s oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Program Coordinator, CNIB Lake Joe to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families

Note that this position will reside at CNIB Lake Joe during the operational season from May to August and will share accommodations with other staff members.

Your Impact at CNIB
  • Be the point of contact for staff and guests when issues arise and help collaboratively problem solve and provide solutions for guests and staff.
  • Maintain documentation of incidents, near-misses, accidents, and any events at beyond regular camp operations.
  • Take on rotational responsibilities of “Manager on Duty” – taking the lead role in emergency situations and responding to text message or phone calls on the “Manager on Duty” cell phone.
  • Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties, including serving, clearing or being meal lead.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are in good working condition and that there are adequate supplies for planned activities.
  • Provide support in planning, scheduling and implementation of all camp programming.
  • Assist in staff training and onboarding processes and complete staff performance reviews.

Requirements

Who you are:

Education and Certifications

  • A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”.
  • NLS an asset.
  • Current Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCO) an asset.
  • Current G class driver’s license with current and clean driver’s abstract an asset.
  • Current F class driver’s license, or willingness to obtain, an asset.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Mature and professional attitude.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Previous experience in supervisory role required.
  • Knowledge and experience in an Ontario Camps Association (OCA) accredited camp an asset.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as standard camp hours and work outdoors for long periods of time.
  • Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff members.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
