1.0 FTE permanent Curriculum Consultant K to 12 - Plurilingual Education Consultant. Effective September 3, 2024

Applications are now being accepted for the 1.0 FTE permanent position of K to 12 Plurilingual Education Consultant , effective September 3, 2024 . The successful candidate will become part of the division’s Curriculum Consultant team. This team is comprised of consultants who report to the Divisional Principal of Curriculum. 

Background and Information

The purpose of the Pembina Trails School Division Curriculum and Learning Services Department is to ensure the currency and quality of all curricular and extra-curricular programs to achieve student success in Pembina Trails schools. The work is guided by Provincial curriculum releases, educational research, and divisional beliefs/policy/practice statements that include:

Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning Framework for Learning. Mamàhtawisiwin: Indigenous Education Policy Framework Manitoba School Leadership Framework Pembina Trails Strategic Map of Priorities Belief Statement on 21st Century Learning The Board’s Three Expectations for Student Learning

Curriculum Department Consultants are responsible for:

Promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and innovation in all schools and spaces within. Aligning access of programming opportunities and pedagogy across schools and classrooms. Coordinating and supporting divisional program events. Improving student achievement and success for all students. Modernizing pedagogy of all educators. Promoting responsive pedagogical strategies for educators.

Key activities of the Curriculum Department Consultants are to support learning and teaching by:

Assisting with the development and selection of responsive materials and resources. Collaborating with school teams on initiatives and projects. Coordinating and delivering professional learning/professional networking opportunities. Modelling the appropriate and effective use of technology, in approved applications/environments, in the implementation of curriculum, instruction and assessment initiatives. Promoting current research and thoughtful practices.

Specific responsibilities of the Plurilingual Education Consultant include:

To advance language diversity and promote inclusive educational practices that recognize and value the linguistic backgrounds and capabilities of all students. To support schools as they navigate communicating with and supporting linguistically, culturally, and racially diverse students and families. To provide expertise and guidance in promoting and supporting multilingualism within all educational settings. To provide leadership in the areas of pedagogy, assessment strategies, and professional development with a focus on multimodal learning, diverse languages, literacies, and student identity To work with school leaders and classroom teachers to develop strategies, learning experiences, and resources that foster the use and development of languages among students and educators. To promote the integration of language learning and promote the development of languages among students. To provide professional development opportunities for educators to enhance their skills in implementing effective language learning strategies. To develop tools and methods for assessing language proficiency and monitor the progress of language learners. To collaborate with parents, community organizations, and other partners to promote awareness of the benefits of multilingual education and involve them in supporting language learning initiatives. To collaborate with other members of the Curriculum Consultant team in the coordination of pedagogy and assessment strategies to support teachers and students in the division. To provide liaison with Manitoba Education in matters related to the EAL, LAL, and French Immersion Programming. To collaborate with Indigenous Student Success teachers to enhance the vitality of Indigenous languages within the Division. To build the knowledge and capacity of school Division staff in relation to providing effective support to newcomer/EAL students and families. To provide leadership in the use of research-based practices that are responsive to the needs of multilingual l To provide direct service through modelling teaching strategies, and assisting with planning, selection, and development of teaching and learning materials. To continue to establish and maintain connections with community based EAL services and supports for students and families. Facilitate and lead the collection of Divisional data on stages of EAL learning. To lead the implementation of the provincial EAL Intake Process Language Acquisition Staging Inventories. To consult with the Divisional Principal of Curriculum on related budgets, grants, policies and workplace health and safety requirements related to this portfolio. To collaborate with other members of the Curriculum Consultant team on common initiatives and priorities.

Applicants for this position should demonstrate that they have :

Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of the Standards for Appropriate Educational Programming in Manitoba and a belief in the Philosophy of Inclusion. Extensive and demonstrated experience in student specific plan (SSP) development, Kindergarten to grade 12, specifically EAL Learning Plans (ELAP) and E-Course Plans Extensive knowledge of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Curriculum Framework for English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Literacy, Academics, and Language (LAL) Programming. Experience in developing and implementing professional development and curriculum implementation. Effective interpersonal, team building, problem-solving, organizational and change management skills. A shared commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion; contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. The ability to be flexible, inclusive, and work with a facilitative approach to engagement and consultation. Excellent verbal and written skills.

Qualifications

Extensive teaching experience in EAL with a rich understanding of additional-language learning and methodology. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Post Baccalaureate Certificate, or Master's Degree in related fields. The a bility to read, write, and speak in both English and French would be an asset. Valid Province of Manitoba Teacher’s Certificate.
