:

This role, reporting to the Director, Consolidated Reporting, is a key contributor in the Corporate Finance team responsible for supporting Sun Life's (SL) global accounting and internal control functions.

The Manager will be accountable for managing monthly and quarterly account reconciliation processes, preparation of quarter end schedules, supporting internal control activities and leading projects, process improvement initiatives and ad-hoc business transactions as required.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, results-driven individual looking to advance their career in accounting & controls, with a passion to lead and drive change to improve operational efficiency. Ability to manage conflicts and competing priorities, with a strong ability to influence without authority to navigate a decentralized organization and drive change across functional groups to achieve desired outcomes.

What will you do?

Manage the account reconciliation process for Corporate functional units and prepare quarterly statistics for consolidated SL in collaboration with other Business Groups

Coordinate the activities leading to a timely month-end and quarter-end close cycle

Prepare/review management deliverables, including errors and misstatements reporting and ad-hoc reports/requests

Assess areas of financial reporting risks and work with control owners to enhance or develop ICFR type controls

Assist external auditors and the ICFR team in the quarterly review/annual audit process

Support management in maintaining compliance with various risk management policies and operating guidelines

Actively coach and develop junior staff

What do you need to succeed?

CPA with 5+ years of public accounting or financial industry experience is strongly preferred

Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and designing ICFR controls

Strong technical knowledge of financial accounting and financial reporting under IFRS

Effective problem-solving and analytical skills; attention to detail while maintaining a "big picture" view in a complex environment

Ability to present results and recommendations to target audience in a clear and concise manner

Strong organizational skills and commitment to meeting reporting deadlines

Ability to motivate and lead finance team members, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement 

Assets:

Experience with SAP S/4HANA (including Fiori and Analysis for Office) is an advantage

Experience with Longview, Tableau or Workiva wDesk is an advantage
