Job Summary

As an active member of the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre (SRCC), the Oncology Clinical Informatics Analyst is responsible and accountable for extracting data from the electronic medical record (EMR). The Clinical Informatics Analyst is responsible for producing and analysing reports of volumes and patient visits and reconciling against Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) and Post Construction Operating Plan (PCOP) volumes.

The Oncology Clinical Informatics Analyst is accountable for summarizing, classifying and translating information into standardized ICD-O (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology) and entering into the Oncology database: diagnosis, topography, morphology, stage and other required elements in compliance with standards set by Cancer Care Ontario, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC), clinical trial guidelines and departmental standards for patients of the SRCC. The Oncology Clinical Informatics Analyst works with the team to ensure data quality, prepare timely submissions to CCO, and prepare ad hoc reports for the Cancer Program.

Primary Responsibilities

•Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual reports on Cancer Centre activity with respect to volumes
•Support Continuous Quality Initiatives within the SRCC in order to maximize visits and patient access to care
•Participate in orientation of new staff as appropriate
•Comply with privacy legislation and policies and procedures when reporting Cancer Centre data
•Perform cross-functional duties as assigned or requested
•Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
•Work in collaboration with the Oncology Informatics team on completion of Databook files for submission to Cancer Care Ontario
•Develop customized or special reports when requested by Program Leaders
•Extract relevant data from MosaiQ for reporting purposes
•Reconcile patient visits, fractions, C1Rs and C1Ss and all other visits to the Cancer Centre to PCOP and Cancer Care Ontario volumes
•Work with the Clinical Informatics team, Regional Vice President and Director of the Regional Cancer Program in determining and projecting Cancer Care Ontario volumes for submission
•Ensure quality of data collected within the Oncology Clinical Information system and employ methods to QA (quality assurance) data prior to reporting and submission
•Lead Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure data quality
•Be proactive in keeping self-informed of CCO Databook and upcoming changes to data capture and submission requirements
•Provide interpretation and validation of data to leaders within the Cancer Centre
•Liaise with Information Management Leads in other Regional Cancer Centres regarding Databook data capture and submission practices
•Work with Finance representative to review, analyze and interpret benchmarking reports and ensure compliance to standards
•Provides support to the Cancer Centre Leadership Team in understanding data and reports

•Excellent time management and organizational abilities, including demonstrated ability to problem solve, to prioritize a variable workload to meet stringent deadlines, and to function in a changing and stressful work environment.
•Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, inter-professional team members, and other stakeholders.
•Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with demonstrated competency in information and communication technology
•Must be self-directed and able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in health management or related field required
•Preference will be given to candidates with university level education in Health Information Management (HRA) or equivalent
•Certified Tumour Registrar (CTR) or CTR eligible, certification to be obtained within 2 years of employment
•Minimum of 1 year Health Information Oncology specific abstracting
•Minimum of 1 year in health information data analysis
• Demonstrated expertise of software applications including Microsoft Office, Excel, csv files; Crystal Reports; previous experience with MosaiQ an asset
•Working knowledge of Cancer Care Ontario’s databases an asset
•Understanding of Provincial funding models including QBPs an asset
•Member of or willing to become a member of National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) and maintain continuing education credits as required by NCRA
