As a Senior Planner, you will play a key role in managing complex planning policy projects and major land use, subdivision, outline plan and development permit application.The position offers professional growth opportunities for individuals demonstrating strong, inclusive leadership and teamwork abilities, in addition to their proven analytical and policy-formulation skills. Primary duties include:

Prepare planning policies, agreements and technical reports, and present professional planning advice and recommendations to the appropriate approving authorities. Evaluate and make recommendations on key issues to the Calgary Planning Commission and Council. Provide expertise and guidance to planners on planning matters and processes related to Urban Design Review Panel (UDRP), Calgary Planning Commission (CPC), Council and Subdivision & Development Appeals Board (SDAB). Review Direct Control Bylaws and policy amendments. Review CPC and SDAB reports and agendas. Attend meetings of CPC to support the Chair and members on planning matters, process and applications. Provide proofing and final sign-off on proposed Bylaws and Public Hearing advertisements. Liaise with the Law department, Land Use Bylaw team, Mapping Services team, SDAB Administration, and the City Clerk¿s Office. Represent Development/Subdivision Authority at SDAB, and other Boards as required. Represent CPC at Council Public Hearings on various land use and policy amendment files, and other files as needed. Collaborate, in conjunction with the entire Approval Coordination and Planning Advisory team, on annual work plans. Work on or assigned as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for various process improvement projects.
  Qualifications  A degree that is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) or a related discipline, and at least 6 years of progressively more responsible and varied planning experience. Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.  Working knowledge of Alberta or Canadian planning legislation and experience involving a broad range of projects within a major urban municipality is an asset. Experience dealing with Intermunicipal or Regional Committees and Boards, is an asset. Success in this role requires:Effective relationship building skills.Effective communication skills, with a focus on customer service and collaboration.Strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to negotiate and problem solve to facilitate conflict resolution.Ability to support, engage and motivate staff.Demonstrate and integrate City values to achieve individual and team objectives.
