Residential School Project Manager

MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

This competition is open to all applicants; and Preference will be given to qualified First Nations applicants or other Indigenous applicants who self-declare as being a First Nations person or of other Indigenous ancestry.

MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking dynamic, motivated individual to fill the full time, term position of Residential School Project Manager. The Residential School Project Manager will act as the key resource for all 9 Meadow Lake First Nations and all parties involved in the Residential School “Honouring the Children” project. Community engagement & knowledge gathering and home visits. Will locate records and research residential attendees. Provide Memorialization & commemoration. Will attend Truth & Reconciliation community, Tribal Council, and regional resolution events, meetings or training whenever possible to keep up-to-date information for claimants and will provide quarterly reports and updates to the MLHSDA.

Duties (include but not limited to):

Develop an annual work plan with MLTC Senior Director of Health & Social Development. Maintain accurate record of activities, provide monthly and quarterly reports. Research local church and dioses archives. Engaging partners Meadow Lake First Nations and Metis communities to develop an inclusive approach to locating missing children and their burial sites. Develop plans for unmarked of known cemeteries and burials at Beauval Indian Residential School site. Coordinate burial site memorialization initiatives including installation or restoration of grave markers and landscaping. Creation of 9 short videos (one for each community) regarding “Honouring the Children”. Collaborate with other affected communities to develop an inclusive approach for the identification of individual remains & their potential relocation. Coordinate at Beauval site to identify potential burial locations – includes GIS mapping and GPR. Facilitate and honour cultural protocols as a part of healing for those impacted by Residential School. Plan and prepare trainings and conference events. Provide frontline emotional support to Residential School Survivors and their families. Maintain Client files for which are receiving counselling supports. Liaison with MLTC Elders council through the Elder’s coordinator. Act as a key resource MLFN’s involved in Residential School Survivors or the events/gatherings. Be knowledgeable and utilize established MLTC/Meadow Lake First Nations community-based healing and wellness programming. Make appropriate referrals when requested for additional emotional support (therapeutic and traditional healing) by referring them to MLTC Mental Health Therapist & contract Meadow Lake First Nations Therapist’s for professional Counselling and as well as Elder Support. Qualifications:

Minimum

Possess 3-5 years’ experience in community development, research, facilitation and counselling.

Preferred

Post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, Community Health & Wellness.

Other

Be familiar with and understand land-based knowledge, First Nation barriers/issues/culture and understanding the intergenerational traumas. First Nation language, culture and traditional practices are an asset. Recognized knowledge and understanding of the Meadow Lake First Nations, beliefs, culture, and traditions to addressing mental health wellness and healing from Residential School impacts. Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Ability to travel extensively and possession of a valid driver’s license. Ability to speak Cree/Dene is considered a valuable asset. Working with minimal supervision/independently and within a team setting.
