Senior Accountant, Reporting, Heartland Finance

Located in Calgary, the Senior Accountant, Reporting role will report to the Supervisor, Reporting, Heartland Petrochemical Accounting. The Reporting Accountant will assist with the financial reporting function for the Heartland Petrochemical Business Unit. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the review and analysis of various financial transactions within the business unit.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
• Assist with the preparation of the monthly and quarterly reporting package to the senior leadership team and corporate accounting
• Work closely with consolidation accountants & corporate accounting team for month & quarter end work
• Administer the month-end timeline, ensuring efficient and accurate financial processes
• Streamline existing processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency
• Review and approve schedules, general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations, offering recommendations to address reconciling items across multiple areas, such as G&A, Capital, foreign exchange, and others
• Analyze monthly, quarterly and annual variances, collaborating with the associated facilities for a comprehensive financial reporting package for internal and external stakeholders
• Utilize analytical thinking to evaluate complex business and accounting issues
• Prioritize workflow and day-to-day tasks to ensure that all activities are processed timely and in accordance with company guidelines
• Apply corporate accounting policies and auditing principles to maintain data integrity, SOX controls and audit trails; support internal and external audit queries as required
• Assist in business unit initiatives such as tax restructuring, development of stand-alone financial statements, enhanced business unit reporting and other ad-hoc projects
Education, Skills and Experience:
• CPA designation is required, with a minimum of six to eight years of relevant experience
• In-depth knowledge and practical experience in accounting under IFRS
• Experience in corporate accounting & financial reporting
• Manage month-end timelines efficiently, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely results
• Proficient in navigating multi-entity and multi-currency environments, including the consolidation of legal entities.
• Organized, self-starter requiring minimal supervision
• SAP experience preferred
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools is beneficial
• Highly organized self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy in financial reporting
• Effective team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
• Demonstrates strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
• Exceptional time management skills to meet deadlines effectively
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
