As a Recreation Programmer within Recreation and Social Programs or Parks and Open Spaces, you will be responsible for planning and leading programs and activities while leading by example, guiding and mentoring other programming staff, and supervising participants in children and youth programs. Such programs may include general recreation programs, special events, day camps, and AfterSchool programs. These programs may operate at City Pools, Leisure Centres, Parks, and Community Partners. Primary duties include: Support program staff in the development and implementation of meaningful program plans and activities. Facilitate as a subject matter expert at Leader and Instructor training events. Assist supervisor in planning recreation programs that focus on social and skill-based outcomes. Be a positive role model while mentoring participants and volunteers.  Ensure safety and supervision of the participants. Manage inventory of equipment and supplies required for activities. Complete program observations, maintain records, and provide program feedback, communicating professionally with direct supervisors, program team, and caregivers. Respond to customer inquiries and provide information to interested participants.  Provide support in program activities when required.
  Qualifications  Minimum 18 years of age. A completed High School diploma or equivalency (for example: GED) is required. At least 1 year of direct experience such as leadership and/or volunteer development, coaching, mentoring, volunteering, practicum, post-secondary education, or related is required. A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required. Access to a personal vehicle for work is required. Ability to obtain The City of Calgary operator's permit may be required for some positions. Calgary AfterSchool Programmers (Fall, Winter Spring seasons) must be available during program time for a minimum of 3 hours per day, 2+ days a week, Monday through Friday, with weekend shift opportunities. Program times will be listed on .  Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) will be considered an asset. Previous experience working with diverse populations culturally and/or physically diverse population will be considered an asset. Previous training of Physical Literacy, Trauma-Informed Practice, and Social Emotional Literacy will be considered an asset. Interest in, currently enrolled in post-secondary fields, or possess education in Child Studies, Education, Social Work, Kinesiology, or related Human Service fields will be considered an asset. Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship building skills along with the ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts. Sound judgement in safety standards, well-developed customer service skills, and a willingness to take initiative and extra leadership duties within program space.
