LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. ROLE OVERVIEW

The successful incumbent will meet the requirements of the position description for Registered Nurse Emergency and act as a contributing team member with specific responsibility for performance of professional nursing care to a patient or group of patients as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Preference BScN-prepared Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Preferred Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or commitment to obtain within 18 months Preferred Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or commitment to obtain within 18 months Preferred Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or commitment to obtain certification within 2 years Critical Care or Emergency Room Certification or commitment to obtain certification within 2 years OHA Triage Training if qualified; or commitment to complete Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) education when requested Preferred Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Certification Preferred minimum two years Medical/Surgical experience or will remain in SSU area of ED to obtain skills Preferred experience caring for Mental Health Patients Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips (tested prior to movement to cardiac monitored area) Demonstrated ability to use crisis prevention intervention (CPI) Demonstrated excellent communication skills and experience dealing with the public Previous experience in working as part of an interprofessional team Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of Northumberland Hills Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of ‘Person-and-Family-Centered’ Model of Care

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to work in an active, rapidly changing, stressful environment with multiple demands Ability to make decisions and prioritize workload and demands effectively Ability to focus on complex instructions and tasks in an environment with many distractions Intense visual concentration required for processing practitioners’ orders, carrying out medication administration routines and interpreting electronic physiological monitoring equipment Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach, and physically support patients with assistance, as required Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending Adheres to safe and healthy workplace practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards, and adheres to health and safety related policies and procedures

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
