Position Summary :

Music psychotherapy will be explored through the study of current music psychotherapy case studies helping students to integrate knowledge of the psychological significance of spiritual, moral, social, emotional, cognitive, behavioural, sexual, gender, and biological development and how to support clients’ development within a variety of music psychotherapy interventions. Students learn how to analyze literature critically, determine its applicability to particular clinical situations, integrate knowledge of key concepts common to all psychotherapy practice and psychotherapy theories, and apply this knowledge to practice with clients from diverse backgrounds (i.e. by further learning to recognize how oppression, power and social injustice may affect the client and therapeutic process and how to best adapt the therapist's approach when working with culturally diverse clients). The course emphasizes and advances the integration of central concepts in music psychotherapy theories and interventions with students’ own clinical practice as well as writing a music psychotherapy case study. The course is closely linked with MU612, integrating the practicum learning experience and helping students to advance their understanding or music psychotherapy processes and typical phases of therapeutic process.

Qualifications – Required: Master’s degree, Music Therapy, or equivalent.

Qualifications - Professional Designation: CRPO RP (independent practice status with evidence) and CRPO supervisor's qualifications; MTA in good standing with supervision status. CAMT approved supervisor. 30 hours supervision course (self-declared), 5 years clinical music therapy experience.

Qualifications - Asset: Clinical Music Psychotherapy experience, record of scholarship.

Salary: $9,206.40
