About the Faculty and Department

The Department of Child and Youth Studies is one of the largest and highest-ranked programs at Brock University and represents the largest/most comprehensive Child and Youth Studies department in Canada. The department offers undergraduate programs (BA Pass or Honours, BA with Major, BA/BEd) that provide a broadly based interdisciplinary approach that considers theoretical and applied approaches to children and youth within the multiple contexts of culture, the economy, the law, family, school, peer group, and community. With roots in criminology, cultural studies, education, psychology, and sociology, the academic focus provides an integration of approaches through which a comprehensive understanding of children and youth can evolve. In addition, the CHYS Graduate Program (MA, PhD) offers a unique multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to the study of children and youth, providing a theoretical foundation and the application of social science research methods.

About the Position

Social Work with Children and Youth

The Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University invites applications for a one-year Instructional Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2024. The position is subject to budgetary approval and will entail teaching 8 half-credit courses per year.

Qualifications

A scholar with a completed PhD in a discipline within Social Sciences and an expertise in social work, with a focus on children and youth and a demonstrated record of effective teaching. Areas of interest might include: families and caregivers, children/youth mental health, youth justice, newcomer youth, gender and sexuality, Indigenous children/youth, disability, among others. Ideally, we are seeking candidates with social work practice and teaching expertise with racialized groups and communities. In addition to a demonstrated record of teaching, the successful candidate will have a potential or demonstrated record in interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary scholarship. Along with departmental service and undergraduate teaching and supervision, the successful candidate will be expected to support the graduate program in Child and Youth Studies.
