Your Opportunity:

Are you interested in working at the Fort McMurray Recovery Centre (FMRC) which provides bed-based addiction treatment program? The Addiction Counsellor will report to the Manager of FMRC and receive day to day support from a Counselling Supervisor. The Addictions Counselling position will be responsible for providing direct therapeutic services. This position will be responsible to maintain accurate records and reports pertaining to clients as assigned by the Counselling Supervisor. This is a temporary position that will end on, or before May 20th, 2025. Duties include: Deliver psycho-educational counselling to clients in a group setting and individually to residents with alcohol, drugs, tobacco and gambling problem; may include support for individuals with concurrent disorders and complex needs. Using best practice guidelines and procedures to provide assessment, treatment, case management and aftercare planning. Develops positive working partnerships with appropriate community resources and referral parties to foster the cooperative delivery of Bed-based Treatment Services. Complete various assessments related to substance use and suicide risk with development of treatment plans, safety plans and applicable referrals. Provides consultation and training to allied professionals, communities, practicum students, etc. Develops strong working relations with FMRC staff to improve communication, and collaboration of programs and services. Participates in training, coaching, clinical supervision and evaluation activities. Completes clinical documentation. Performs other duties as requested by Supervisor, Manager or other designates. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience in bed-based addiction treatment settings and in community addiction and mental health settings. Current certifications in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training, BCLS-HCP, etc. are an asset.
