Overview

The Glen Stor Dun Lodge, our Municipal long-term care home, is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Principal Attending Nurse Practitioner (35hr/week). The Glen Stor Dun Lodge is a non-profit organization governed by the Long-Term Care Act of the Province of Ontario and falls under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. 

Reporting to the Director of Care, Glen Stor Dun Lodge, the Principal Attending Nurse Practitioner is responsible for setting the pace and example in progressive workplace culture. This role will work in tandem with the Medical Director for meeting the Long-Term Care Home’s policies, procedures, and protocols for medical services and work in conjunctions with the Director of Care on implementing clinical strategies and initiatives and resident care. This position will also include overseeing some employee relations, emphasizing and promoting a culture of accountability within the nursing department, and coaching the Glen Stor Dun Lodge staff to ensure consistent and equitable application of company policies and procedures.

The Principal Attending Nurse Practitioner is the primary care provider to the residents and works within his/her scope of practice as described and outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and will also be responsible for:

  • Creating adaptable and achievable recruitment and retention strategies based on current and projected staffing requirements to maintain legislated hours of care requirements as per the Fixing Long-Term Care Act
  • Advising and coaching the staff at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge on operational clinical issues and initiatives related to resident care.
  • Progressive and advanced collaboration and team building concepts, seek to build a relationship of mutual trust, respect and collaboration amongst all residents and staff within the facility.
  • Providing guidance to employees including recommending resources for support, including resident care treatment plans, procedural protocols, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and QI standards.
  • Leading and implementing best practices in change management for organizational and individual change
  • Being the champion for the development and monitoring of resident care protocols, resident care standards and best practices.
  • Collaborating on effective and efficient administrative practices for the practical delivery of internal policies and processes. 
  • Being the primary care provider to the residents and works within his/her scope of practice as described and outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Participating in strategic planning initiatives by contributing insights related to innovative and technological advancement to support enhanced resident care.
  • Participating in the recruitment process for nurses.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A seasoned professional in Gerontology or Management or three (3) to five (5) years relevant long-term care experience. 
  • Must possess a current Ontario CNO license.
  • Understanding of leadership principles and human resources.
  • Advanced skillsets in the delivery of win-win problem solving, coaching for development, and providing constructive feedback with an equal understanding of how to use these tools in coordination of other formal performance instruments as required. 
  • Core competencies for the position include: the ability to manage and measure work, having a clinical  acumen, the ability to organize multi-disciplinary teams, inclusive decision making with required stakeholders, possessing managerial courage, being just and equal in the treatment of team members, and the ability to minimize negative conflict to build better situations where positive conflict may thrive.
  • Must be up to date with Covid 19 vaccination
