Main Activities

1. Core Function (50%)Lead the development, application and deployment of data policies, standards, and processes and influence Business Units to adopt Data Governance best practicesCollaborate with data stewards, data owners, data custodians, and data consumers to establish best practices, processes and procedures in support of Data GovernanceEnsure the application of Data Quality guidance and controls throughout the data lifecycle, with a focus on continuous data and process improvementPrepare and deliver status updates on Data Quality by developing and updating an executive dashboard through the development and application of KPIs.Track resolution of data quality issues to resolution as part of reporting; oversee and populate Issues Tracker (ensure clarity of content) and ensure issues are prioritized and tracked to remediation or surfaced at the appropriate forums for transparency and visibility; develop key messages from the data for consumption by executive audience (work the governance feedback loop)Be responsible for applying the Data Governance Framework, its operating model, data policies and standardsParticipate and guide data stewards in the CDE identification processEnsure alignment of existing Data policies with relevant legal and regulatory mandates by interfacing closely with Risk, Law and ComplianceOperate the Data Remediation and Change Management process and be the central point of contact for data stewards and ensure the conclusion of Data Quality issuesCertify that all the metadata entered in the Data Governance tool is correct and validated by the data owner, including Business Glossary definitions and maintain an inventory of Data ControlsEnsure that projects that impact AIRB CDEs align with the Data Governance Framework and other related artifacts . This involves collaboration with Enterprise Risk Governance team toEnsure that appropriate data-related gaps are identified and actions plans are created to remediate the gaps.Plan and execute structured approach to providing robust Line 1B challenge to Line 1 re 2006 OSFI Data Maintenance note, and provide monthly at least updates on progress to second line in Risk and Line 1B Senior Director.Assess tooling2. Team Development (30%)Provide encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skill checksManage direct reports performance via weekly 1:1s on clear deliverablesTrack work progress and outputs via documented Kanban boardsEnsure full utilization and capacity, and escalate capacity availability to Senior Director if necessaryManage mid-year and end of year performance assessments and coach in the moment on did well’s and do better’s (effective performance feedback)Support training goals for teamBuild the team and personal profile to be the go-to trusted advisors and thought leaders for DG in EQB; promote data literacy in EQB through regular trainings for BUs in selected DG sessions (quarterly) and providing the data perspective in various steering committee meetingsPlan and allocate resources to effectively accomplish the team’s deliverablesEstablish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to check the information accuracy and integrity of the team’s deliverablesLead employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.3. Training (10%)Lead the development and delivery of Data Steward training and internal accreditationParticipate in the development and delivery of internal data literacy training programs (e.g., Data Governance Basics, Data Quality best practices)Assist in delivering the training for existing and new Data Stewards4. Support and Maintenance (10%)Support audit activities pertaining to Data GovernanceProvide data governance related expertise for downstream applications

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

Undergraduate degree, preferably in the areas of Technology or Commerce/Business Administration15+ years of experience working in data governance or data management role in a Canadian FI5+ years of people management experienceExperience with drafting policy, standards, and other related documentsExperience with any Data Governance tools (e.g., Collibra, OvalEdge, Apache Atlas, etc.)Experience with Data Stewardship in a Canadian financial institutionGood knowledge of SDLC - agile and waterfall methodologiesProficient knowledge of SQLProficient user of MS Office SuiteExcellent written , verbal and comprehension skillsExcellent multi-tasking and organizational skillsExcellent problem solving and analytical thinking skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsNice-to-haveData Governance or Data Management accreditation is a plus (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, CIMP)Understanding of Master Data Management technology, processes and design principlesExperience with implementing regulatory programsExperience in implementation of Advanced Internal Ratings Based (AIRB) approachProject/Program/Portfolio management experienceFamiliarity with ITIL and IT service management best practicesJob Complexities / Thinking ChallengesThe incumbent will have successfully overseen the smooth execution and delivery of Data Governance programs. They must have strong Data Governance and Management related domain expertise and technical knowledge to successfully support the DG program.The incumbent must be an intent listener and excellent communicator when discussing and relaying ideas to the business units, external partners or internal staff members. The incumbent must be able to gather all pieces of information, often asking for clarification and providing recommendation if gap has been identified and summarize the requirements clearly and concisely to both the technical and non-technical staff.When providing solutions, the incumbent must consider future growth, expansion of business, ease of use by the business units and technical limitations to ensure provided solution is sustainable and yet meet the business requirements.Incumbent must have the ability to connect with direct report(s) to understand their challenges and provide coaching and support as required.This position will require an individual to be creative and flexible to effectively manage constrained resources in a fast-paced, dynamic environment subject to constant change. The incumbent will have to quickly become familiar with systems, regulatory requirements, policies and departmental processes.
