Position Summary : This course extends and deepens the understanding of current theory and practice related to English language and literacy development including unit and long-range planning, assessment, instruction, and implementation of the Ontario Curriculum across the junior/intermediate level (grades 4 to 10). The course will focus on the consolidation of requisite knowledge and skills to establish a repertoire of research and evidence-based instructional strategies to support students’ literacy development. The course will consider a broad definition of literacy to examine the literacy practices of our changing world to include how equity, diversity, inclusion, and indigenization practices support and foster a critical orientation to teaching literacy.

Successful candidate will work with the course lead in order to provide consistency across sections.

Assets for a successful candidate: Doctoral degree in education or related discipline; post-secondary teaching experience in teacher education; Teaching language and literacy in Ontario schools at the junior/intermediate level; School leadership experience in literacy education

Qualifications – Required: Master’s degree in education or related discipline; Bachelor of Education and/or K – 12 Teaching Certification; K – 8 teaching experience in language and literacy and/or experience as a literacy consultant at the elementary level
