Course Calendar Description: This course provides students with an overview of the planning, design, implementation, and control of flexible manufacturing systems. It discusses the concept of flexible manufacturing and types of manufacturing systems such as cellular manufacturing and the application of various artificial intelligence techniques to the design of cellular manufacturing systems. It also includes an overview of the basic components of flexible manufacturing systems: selection of automated material handling systems, part type selection and tool allocation models, workpieces and tools routing, capacity planning, and scheduling for flexible manufacturing systems. (Equivalent to MEC 813)

A part-time hourly appointment / one semester is for less than 9 hours in any one semester. The normal full-time teaching workload in the Department is a maximum of 16 hours per week across the Fall and Winter terms.

TA/GA support is academically required to deliver this course/section. The successful applicant will be provided appropriate TA/GA support. Additionally, if eligible, they will receive 20% of the total extra student payment as outlined in Article 17 of the Unit 1 Collective Agreement.

Lecture Schedule: Tuesday 8:00AM-10:00AM & Friday 11:00AM-12:00PM

Course delivery in Fall 2024 will be in-person.

Candidates hired for in-person courses will be required to carry out their teaching on campus.

Qualifications

All applicants must be in possession of a Masters degree in industrial engineering or in a relevant discipline.

Applicants should have up-to-date knowledge in the specific fields/disciplines of relevance for the course in the position for which they apply.

Applicants should have good human-relations skills, including reliability, collegiality, professionalism, a respect for the rights of co-workers and students, and ability to meet commitment.

Membership in the P.E.O. (minimum EIT) is desired, as well as teaching experience.
