Position Overview

The School of Child & Youth Care at Toronto Metropolitan University is seeking qualified individuals for contract lecturer roles in the Child and Youth Care program. This opportunity is focused on teaching students who are preparing to enter the field of child and youth care, with an emphasis on innovative and diverse educational approaches.

Located in a vibrant urban setting, the School is dedicated to fostering the development of future practitioners and scholars in child and youth care. Our curriculum is designed to integrate theoretical frameworks with practical applications in various settings, including community services, educational institutions, and healthcare environments. We prioritize the experiences of marginalized youth, including Black and Indigenous youth, as well as those identifying as 2SLGBTQ+ and individuals with disabilities.

Course Information

The CYC 301 course, titled Interpersonal Communications, aims to equip students with essential interpersonal skills necessary for effective interaction with children, youth, and professionals in the field. The course will explore the impact of personal values and communication styles on group dynamics.

Responsibilities

Contract lecturers will be responsible for:

  • Delivering engaging lectures and facilitating discussions.
  • Updating course materials to align with current practices and trends.
  • Providing support and guidance to students, ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
  • Participating in faculty meetings and contributing to program development.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master's degree in Child and Youth Care or a related discipline (Doctorate preferred).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience, particularly with adult learners and online course delivery.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Current knowledge of child and youth care practices, including frameworks addressing equity and inclusion.

Compensation

Salary will be determined in accordance with the relevant collective agreement.
