The Role

Reporting to the Co-Managing Partner, Commercial Mortgages, the Vice President will have responsibility for driving the growth of CMG’s Origination team nationally. This role requires a seasoned commercial real estate finance expert with experience in both CMHC insured, conventional term and construction lending.

Using a lead-by-example approach and a flexible management style the Vice President will expand the reach of MCAP Commercial nationally by leveraging an established origination team with an eye to recruiting and developing new team members.The Vice President will ensure that the commercial value proposition is clearly understood by Borrowers and Brokers through a broad range of communication and marketing channels.

The Vice President will be responsible for the direction and the overall activities relating to the origination of commercial mortgages across all major markets in Canada. Formulating short and long-term business sales and marketing strategies, monitoring, guiding, and coaching the Origination team to enhance overall performance, including the setting of key objectives are all critical components of the role. The Vice President, Origination will also be a key contributor to CMG’s rolling 5-year business plan. 

Planning and Performance

Lead the Origination team nationally Oversee Commercial Originations day-to-day operations and achievement of the approved annual business plan and associated targets. Development of origination and new business strategies that align with MCAP’s long term Strategic Plan, achievement of business unit strategic and operational initiatives and business unit contractual, regulatory, and legislative compliance. Ensure the continued successful growth of CMG by forward planning, structuring, and ensuring sufficient resources and optimal team structure exists in line with anticipated growth. Provide accurate front end commercial pipeline reporting through the use of Salesforce and PLM to ensure that resources are properly allocated leading to best-in-class service and enhanced profitability Enhance existing and grow new key customer relationships through allocation of the call list, monitoring success levels, and prioritizing loan underwriting. Other actions will include distributing sales incentives and providing allocation recommendations where Origination may exceed funding capacity. Point person working with Investment Management on underwriting due diligence leading to investor approval for purchase of mortgage portfolios Utilize market intelligence to put forth funding program improvements that are market competitive while meeting investor requirements Develop national marketing and sales strategies through the effective use of the MCAP website, social media, advertising, promotional events, industry speaking engagements and sponsorships Review and recommend changes to policies and products in order to increase profitability and/or take advantage of market opportunities. Develop new business initiatives to grow the business and adapt to market changes and opportunities. Working with CMG Management Team, ensure a holistic approach to client service from origination through to renewal

Leadership

Lead, develop, train, and retain a high-performance origination team with an emphasis on developing career growth, improved management skills, strategic analysis resulting in market leading initiatives, and executing strategies and action plans that lead to the long-term success of MCAP. Establish, monitor, and communicate performance standards for the Origination team that reinforce MCAP’s Values, promotes innovation, teamwork and individual growth and rewards business unit success and achievement of MCAP’s Objectives. Recruit and develop the right people that believe in and reflect in their behavior MCAP’s Values and culture. Represent the company as appropriate in its relationships with its major customers, investors, competitors, government agencies, professional societies, and industry groups. Origination liaison working with other commercial partners to improve processes and use of technology

Ensure that all origination team members are properly licensed Maintain responsibility for overall legislative and contractual compliance as it relates to Commercial Origination. Manage and ensure compliance with all MCAP Approved Lender Correspondents

What You Bring To The Team 

A minimum of 10 years' industry experience in the Canadian commercial mortgage market A minimum of 2-3 years' leadership experience; demonstrated success building and developing high performance teams Familiarity with CMHC Multi-Family Underwriting, Processes and Procedures Knowledge of the Multi-Family space, including new construction Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint Proficient with Salesforce is an advantage Ability to demonstrate initiative/confidence and is decisive Familiarity with CMHC policy and the multi-family marketplace is an asset Ability to originate transactions with a demonstrated track in marketing and deal negotiations Exceptional oral and written communication skills Excellent organizational and time-management skills Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical and problem solving skills Proven ability to foster relationships Strong customer service skills Self-driven, motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment Carries out duties with integrity and takes responsibility for actions Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred Completion of Professional Designation (. CAIA, CFA, CPA) is considered an asset Mortgage Broker License
