The Information and Privacy (I&P) Strategist leads the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and initiatives in collaboration with internal and external partners which address emerging issues in information and privacy management. The position will provide expert knowledge and understanding on matters pertaining to information and privacy and play a critical role in upholding and enhancing the information and privacy governance and practices at The City of Calgary. Primary duties include:

Advance the Corporate Privacy Management Program Framework and the Corporate Privacy Program Strategic Plan. Create policy options and analyze potential opportunities and risks associated with achieving desired information and privacy outcomes. Act as a resource by providing informed opinions based on research, best practices, and engagement. Provide guidance and coordination in the development and implementation of strategic information and privacy initiatives. Monitor organization practices to identify new processes or material changes to existing processes to ensure implementation of Privacy by Design principles. Maintain knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation and monitor advancements in formation and privacy technologies to assist with Corporate adaptation and compliance.  Aid in assessing and monitoring compliance with established information and privacy policies, standards, practices, and expectations. Contribute to the assessment and management of the impact of technology, process, policy, and legislative changes on information and privacy governance. Lead groups with diverse interests and agendas toward common outcomes. As an ad hoc project lead, the I&P Strategist will need to assemble the team, assign tasks and deadlines, and agree on deliverables. Respond to emerging issues identified by Council and Administration. Assess, implement, and analyze indicators and metrics to determine the current culture and effectiveness of information and privacy safeguards relative to evolving standards. Conduct research and monitor current trends, best practices, and developments in the information and privacy management sector. Analyze existing processes to identify automation opportunities in areas of data management, data privacy and records management. Generate reports and help coordinate divisional data requests. Prepare reports, briefing memos, presentation materials, devising and updating policies for consideration by the FOIP Coordinator. Contribute to the development of training and awareness programs, and identify and make recommendations for improvements to practices and compliance. Develop educational materials, such as: brochures, tip sheets, manuals, and other resources for the Corporation. Qualifications  A degree in a related discipline such as Arts, Business, Information Management, Public Administration, Public Policy, Library Sciences or related degree. At least 5 years of related professional experience in access and privacy, records and information management, archival management systems, knowledge management, policy and/or program development, and/or operational and strategic planning. Sound knowledge of freedom of information and protection of privacy principles, with demonstrated experience researching, analyzing and interpreting legislation. Professional designation or certification such as the following would be an asset:Certified Information Privacy Professional for Canada/CIPP/C, orCertified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), orCertificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy, or related field. Ability to work autonomously as well a cross-functionally with other teams and to influence and build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the Corporation. You have strong communication skills and demonstrate organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
