Reporting to the Professional Practice Director, Nurse Practitioners, the Lead, Nurse Practitioners is responsible for providing expert leadership, consultation, advice and assistance to programs and departments across VCH on projects and initiatives designed to support a quality practice environment and excellence in clinical practice for NPs, including supporting electronic health care record initiatives. The Lead, Nurse Practitioners provides practice leadership to Nurse Practitioners (NPs) across Vancouver Coastal Health, acknowledging that Nurse Practitioners are autonomous, collaborative medical practitioners and that developing role clarity is essential to the effectiveness of interprofessional teams in which NPs function. Working to foster the integration NP practice and understanding of practice scope and to create a supportive professional practice structure that will ensure adequate opportunities for mentorship, clinical practice feedback, collegial relationships with physicians and other medical staff, and collaborative practice within the interprofessional teams. In addition, the Lead, Nurse Practitioners performs Clinical Nurse Practitioner related duties as assigned and will have key accountabilities for quality assurance and patient safety within the Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners in accordance with the medical staff rules and bylaws.

Key Accountabilities :

Develops effective strategies that support the integration, implementation and sustainment of evidenced-informed quality practices and regulation for Nurse Practitioners across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Leads the implementation and administration of Nurse Practitioner policy and standards and oversees the work of designated staff in the provision of Nurse Practitioner evaluation, professional development and mentorship. Coordinates the collection of data related to Nurse Practitioner human resources planning and performance metrics, develops processes that support the recruitment and retention of Nurse Practitioners, and directs the work of assigned staff. Leads and/or participates in the development and evaluation of recruitment and retention models that align with funding models, quality assurance/quality improvement activities, evidenced-based practice, and performance requirements, identifies and engages stakeholders for system wide partnerships. Leads the implementation of change initiatives (. legislative and practice related) and assesses the potential and/or actual impact of regional initiatives on the practice environment as well as the inherent risks to patients/outcomes. Provides leadership and expert advice on staffing, skill mix, and care delivery approaches through interprofessional collaborative practice; promotes patient safety, best practices, improved access to care, and efficient flow of patients across the continuum of care. Identifies risks to practitioners and/or VCH associated with professional practice standards, plans corrective actions(s) as required and analyzes the outcomes of the actions. Participates in the overall development of goals and objectives for Nurse Practitioners across the Healthcare continuum of programs and services as well as VCH medical staff initiatives. Manages a number of projects and initiatives including developing goals and objectives with project partners, establishing project timelines, setting and monitoring deliverable uptake. Must maintain clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner, within a designated minimum amount of clinical practice, privileged as medical staff in either active, provisional or consulting categories. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner including progressive clinical practice, education, research, project management or leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) required.
