About the Role:


Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Services, this role has primary responsibility to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house 24x7 IT Infrastructure hardware and services that support core organizational functions.


The Technical Specialist’s role is to design, install, administer, operate, and optimize company servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the servers as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. Where applicable, the Technical Specialist will assist in overseeing the security, integrity, and safety of the Azure Cloud and managed data center/server farm.


Your Responsibilities:

Design, install, configure, manage, and monitor core infrastructure services running on Windows Operating System, both in Azure and on-premise VMware hypervisor.Perform system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery proceduresManage enterprise directory services and supporting server infrastructure; including accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliancePlan and implement server upgrades, Windows Operating systems, upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patchesMonitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.Recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performanceSupport and maintain data center/server room processes and proceduresAnticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers. Escalate incidents as necessaryDevelop and maintain training materials and server documentation, including system configuration, procedure, and processesCoordinate and collaborate with network engineering, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demandsEstablish, implement, and comply with policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure server securityComply with predefined policies and licensing agreementsAct as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as neededConduct research on server hardware, software, protocols, standards, and best-practices in support of procurement and development effortsPractise asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications informationSupport application development teams throughout project lifecyclesProvide guidance to junior members of the team


Your Qualifications:

University degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 10+ years of equivalent IT experience5+ years experience in a senior technical specialist position responsible for managing server environments3+ years experience hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experienceAdvanced hands-on knowledge of Azure Cloud Computing, Microsoft Windows Server 2012/2019, VMware VSphere ESXi, Windows Active Directory (users & computers, groups, OUs, GPOs), and File (DFS, NFS, and CIFS) servicesExperience with at least one of the following hardware: Cisco UCS (blades) and IBM xSeriesExtensive experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment, including at least one of the following: SCSI, RAID, and Fibre ChannelExperience with server management, monitoring, and performance tuning tools. Hands-on experience with SCCM, SCOM an assetGood understanding of: TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, DHCP, WINS, MS IIS, and FTP/SFTPFamiliar with backups and recovery procedures. Experience with Rubrik backup software an assetKnowledge of Server Imaging and Scripting (batch, PowerShell, VBScript) an assetGeneral knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS an assetExperience with Microsoft cluster technologies, , and DFS Replication and assetDatacenter/Server Room cabling (Copper and/or Fibre) knowledge an assetExperience with other enterprise applications like SQL, Exchange, SharePoint, Citrix an assetExperience within the financial services industry an assetMicrosoft Azure Cloud certification, VMware certification an asset
